Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Asset Management and Engineering, the Manager – UG Infrastructure & HME will be responsible for delivering maintenance excellence for underground mining equipment and infrastructure.

The role oversees all major maintenance activities, equipment rebuilds, underground infrastructure development, and workshop operations to ensure:

• Safe operations
• High equipment reliability
• Maximum fleet availability
• Cost-effective asset management
• Sustainable underground mining performance

The position supports operations at:

• Star Underground Mine
• Comet Underground Mine
• Other underground mining operations as required

Key Responsibilities

Underground Equipment Maintenance Management

• Develop and implement world-class maintenance strategies for underground mining equipment.
• Manage routine and non-routine maintenance activities.
• Oversee major equipment rebuild projects.
• Ensure compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards.
• Improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Underground Infrastructure Management

• Lead design, installation, and maintenance of underground infrastructure.
• Align infrastructure projects with mine plans and operational requirements.
• Ensure infrastructure supports current and future mining activities.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical guidance to maintenance leaders and trades personnel.
• Support troubleshooting and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Lead root cause analysis investigations.
• Develop preventive maintenance strategies.

Equipment Reliability & Performance

• Analyze equipment failures and premature component wear.
• Coordinate warranty claims with suppliers and OEMs.
• Track equipment lifecycle performance.
• Develop long-term asset replacement strategies.

Planning & Execution

• Develop scopes of work for major maintenance projects.
• Ensure timely completion of rebuild projects.
• Monitor project quality, cost, and schedule performance.
• Support maintenance scheduling and shutdown planning.

Team Leadership & Development

• Supervise maintenance personnel and contractors.
• Maintain training records and competency assessments.
• Provide coaching and on-the-job training.
• Build technical capability within maintenance teams.

Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination

• Collaborate with planning teams to optimize inventory levels.
• Support Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) initiatives.
• Ensure availability of critical spare parts and consumables.

Documentation & Reporting

• Ensure maintenance inspections are completed and documented.
• Review and close work orders promptly.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Support asset performance reporting.

---

On-Call Support

• Participate in on-call rosters.
• Provide expert support during breakdowns and reliability incidents.
• Ensure rapid response to critical equipment failures.

• Ensure electricians involved in HV and MV installations are properly trained and certified.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.

Alternative Consideration

• Relevant vocational qualifications combined with extensive practical experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance.

Experience Requirements

Essential

• Minimum 15 years of hands-on experience maintaining heavy mining equipment.
• At least 6 years in a senior management role within underground mining operations.

Highly Desirable

Experience with:

• Caterpillar (CAT) underground mining equipment
• Sandvik underground mining equipment
