Job Purpose
The Control and Automation Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliability, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical and automation systems within the manufacturing plant.
The role focuses on maximizing machine uptime, improving operational efficiency, maintaining automation systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Electrical and Automation Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and automation equipment.
- Diagnose faults in automated machinery and control systems.
- Ensure continuous availability of production equipment.
- Improve engineering response times to minimize downtime.
Equipment Reliability
- Drive loss elimination initiatives across production lines.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly condition monitoring activities.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
- Maintain machine reliability and performance.
Safety Compliance
- Ensure contractors comply with plant safety requirements.
- Verify that machine guards and safety devices are functional.
- Ensure safety switches and status indicators are operational.
- Promote compliance with electrical safety standards.
Electrical Panel Management
- Ensure electrical panels are:
- Properly numbered
- Clean and dry
- Securely closed
- Verify:
- Breakers and fuses are correctly rated.
- Contactors and relays operate correctly.
- Panel cooling systems function effectively.
- Filters remain clean.
Cable and Wiring Management
- Maintain power and control cables in good condition.
- Ensure terminals are firmly secured.
- Verify cable identification and labeling.
- Organize cables properly within trays and enclosures.
Motor Management
- Ensure all electric motors are:
- Numbered
- Labeled correctly
- Matched to equipment documentation
- Maintain a physical register of motors, including:
- Fault history
- Repairs performed
- Maintenance records
Maintenance Documentation
- Perform routine electrical and automation maintenance.
- Record and document all maintenance activities.
- Complete maintenance sign-off procedures accurately.
- Maintain compliance with maintenance standards.

Education Requirements
Minimum Qualification
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSc)

Experience Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Electrical and Automation Engineering.
- Experience within a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturing environment.
Technical Experience
- Advanced electrical and automation maintenance expertise.
- Understanding of bottling technology and manufacturing operations.
- Experience interpreting manufacturing policies, procedures, and systems.
- Knowledge of machine programming and automation systems.
