Job Vacancy:Mechanical Engineer (Cogeneration Plant)
Bagamoyo Sugar Limited (BSL), a subsidiary of the Bakhresa Group, is a significant private sugar manufacturer in Tanzania. Established in 2016 following a land grant from the Tanzanian government, the company operates a large-scale “greenfield” project in the Makurunge area of the Bagamoyo District. The primary goal of the facility is to bolster national sugar self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on expensive imports. Commercial production officially commenced in mid-2022, marking a major milestone for the region’s industrial and agricultural development.
The project is being developed in three phases, with an estimated total investment of approximately $300 million (over TSh 690 billion). Currently, the facility has an initial production capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes per year, which is expected to scale up to 100,000 tonnes upon full completion. Beyond its internal estate, BSL supports a comprehensive out-grower scheme, providing local farmers with technical expertise and a guaranteed market for their sugarcane. This initiative has already created hundreds of direct jobs and is projected to provide livelihoods for thousands of Tanzanians as operations continue to expand.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate and monitor boiler systems.

Operate and monitor steam turbines.

Support preventive and breakdown maintenance of plant equipment.

Maintain logs, checklists, and reports.

Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.

Basic understanding of industrial safety.

Basic knowledge of boilers, turbines, pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment.

1–3 years of relevant experience in the field.
