Job Summary

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is seeking an experienced Mechanical Planner to support maintenance planning, scheduling, resource coordination, equipment reliability, and maintenance performance.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Planning Superintendent, Mechanical team, Reliability, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Stores, Procurement, and other stakeholders to ensure maintenance activities are properly planned, resourced, and executed safely and efficiently.

The role also requires maintaining accurate maintenance information within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Environment & Community

  • Comply with company HSE systems, site procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and safe working practices.
  • Identify, report, and address hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, risk assessments, incident reporting, and investigations.
  • Support the target of zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) within the Maintenance Department.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed by employees, contractors, and other personnel.

Maintenance Planning & Operations

  • Develop and maintain effective mechanical maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Create, update, and maintain work orders within the CMMS.
  • Prepare detailed work scopes, job steps, labour requirements, estimated durations, materials, tools, and other resources.
  • Plan preventive, predictive, corrective, breakdown, statutory, and shutdown maintenance activities.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities based on safety, production requirements, equipment condition, and available resources.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical Supervisors, Technicians, Operations, Stores, Procurement, Engineering, Reliability, and other teams.
  • Ensure spare parts, tools, materials, specialist services, and equipment are available before scheduled work.
  • Monitor work-order progress and ensure accurate status updates.
  • Adjust maintenance schedules according to operational priorities and emerging requirements.
  • Maintain and improve Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, Bills of Materials (BOMs), job plans, task lists, equipment hierarchies, and other CMMS master data.
  • Participate in shutdown planning, work-pack development, risk assessments, resource planning, and post-maintenance reviews.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for significant mechanical equipment failures.
  • Support annual maintenance budgets, cost forecasts, and resource planning.
  • Prepare maintenance performance reports covering planning, scheduling, backlog, PM compliance, and other KPIs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Mechanical Maintenance Planning, preferably in:
    • Mining
    • Mineral processing
    • Heavy industry
    • Similar operational environments
  • Trade qualification or Diploma in Maintenance or a related technical field.
  • Experience using Pronto CMMS or SAP is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid approved driver’s licence.
  • Ability to read and interpret OEM/vendor manuals, mechanical drawings, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to develop detailed and executable maintenance work packages.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical equipment used in mining and mineral processing.

Technical Knowledge

Candidates should have knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment such as:

  • Crushers

  • Gearboxes
  • Screens
  • Feeders
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Lubrication systems
  • Valves
  • Other mechanical processing equipment

  • Mechanical reliability practices

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to undertake external training where required.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours when necessary.
