Organizational Context

Under the supervision of the Regional Health Assessment Programme Coordinator (RHAPC) and/or Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO), the successful candidate will manage the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.


Key Responsibilities

Migration Health Assessment Management

Oversee and supervise health assessment services including:

  • Medical examinations
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Laboratory testing
  • Vaccinations
  • Tuberculosis (TB) management
  • Treatment and referrals
  • Pre-departure medical procedures
  • Medical documentation and reporting

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct health assessments for refugees and migrants.
  • Review medical histories and physical examinations.
  • Evaluate chest X-rays and laboratory results.
  • Ensure compliance with technical guidelines of resettlement countries.

Facility and Operations Management

  • Maintain MHAC infrastructure and medical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Coordinate staffing and human resource requirements.
  • Develop and maintain networks of consultants and medical escorts.

Quality Assurance

  • Implement and monitor quality improvement systems.
  • Conduct audits, observations, and performance reviews.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Manage incident reporting and corrective actions.

Public Health Activities

  • Support communicable disease surveillance.
  • Coordinate outbreak preparedness and response.
  • Promote health education and public health interventions.
  • Collaborate with national health institutions and stakeholders.

Staff Supervision and Development

  • Supervise clinical and non-clinical personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Develop staff training and capacity-building plans.
  • Promote compliance with IOM standards and ethics.

Financial and Resource Management

  • Assist with budget preparation and financial oversight.
  • Review financial reports.
  • Coordinate procurement of:
    • Medical equipment
    • Vaccines
    • Medicines
    • Medical supplies

Data Management

  • Ensure confidentiality of migration health data.
  • Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of health data.
  • Maintain compliance with IOM Data Protection Principles.

Additional Duties

  • Integrate health assessment activities with broader migration programs.
  • Provide technical advice on migration health initiatives.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications

Education

Option 1

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • At least 3 years in a managerial role.

Option 2

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
  • Master’s degree in:
    • Community Health
    • Public Health
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Tropical Medicine
    • Related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • At least 3 years in a managerial role.
