Job Purpose
The Packaging Operator will safely operate, monitor, and maintain designated packaging equipment and related processes to achieve required standards in safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability. The role also involves process control, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and autonomous equipment operations in line with AB InBev’s manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health and Environment
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace.
- Follow safety, quality, and operational procedures.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, and equipment abnormalities.
- Participate in safety initiatives, risk assessments, and improvement activities.
Production Operations
- Execute production plans to achieve shift targets.
- Operate and monitor manual and automated packaging equipment.
- Monitor production processes and take corrective action when performance deviates from targets.
- Maintain equipment efficiency, productivity, and process quality.
- Minimize waste, losses, and downtime.
Equipment Performance and Process Control
- Monitor machine and process performance against established standards.
- Analyse operational trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Record and analyse production losses, downtime, and process deviations.
- Identify equipment defects and non-standard work practices and support their resolution.
- Improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
Administration and Reporting
- Complete operator workstation administration accurately and on time.
- Maintain production records and monitoring documents.
- Complete team-room administration and reporting requirements.
- Update production information and performance metrics.
- Use digital tools, tablets, laptops, and manufacturing systems in daily operations.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor performance indicators and take corrective action on negative trends.
- Conduct Quality Failure Reviews (QFRs) when required.
- Participate in 5 Why and other root-cause investigations.
- Contribute to Action-Based reports and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, and VPO methodologies.
- Implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurring equipment and process problems.
Autonomous Operations
- Conduct routine equipment care activities.
- Perform basic equipment inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and operational checks.
- Identify equipment abnormalities and initiate corrective actions.
- Support asset-care activities to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Identify spare-parts requirements and raise requests through SAP where required.

Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Experience in FMCG manufacturing or packaging is an advantage.
- Experience operating production or packaging equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to automated manufacturing systems and continuous improvement practices is beneficial.
- Understanding of VPO principles and methodologies.
- Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Ability to conduct root-cause analysis using structured problem-solving tools.
- Ability to interpret operational data and identify performance improvement opportunities.
