Position Summary

The Pharmacist is responsible for managing regulatory and ethics stakeholder engagement, providing regulatory pathway guidance, supporting clinical trial approvals, and ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical and clinical research regulations throughout the study lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

Regulatory & Ethics Coordination

  • Manage regulatory and ethics stakeholder engagement and approval processes.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with institutional, national, regional, and international regulatory and ethics bodies.
  • Provide investigators with regulatory and ethics guidance from study conception to completion.
  • Develop and maintain Regulatory and Ethics Pathway Advisories.
  • Facilitate pre-submission engagement with regulatory authorities, ethics committees, and permit bodies.
  • Support navigation of electronic submission portals and resolve procedural or validation issues.
  • Follow up on acknowledgements, reviews, approvals, permits, and study closure requirements.
  • Identify and resolve approval delays and regulatory challenges.
  • Coordinate access to scientific, clinical, legal, ethical, financial, and technical expertise.
  • Interpret regulatory review comments, approval conditions, restrictions, and post-approval obligations.
  • Maintain records of regulatory advice, stakeholder engagement, and approval progress.
  • Provide early warning to the Head of BCTF on regulatory risks and operational implications.

Study Regulatory Support

  • Review regulatory and ethics pathways for proposed studies.
  • Identify required approvals, permits, insurance, biosafety, specimen, product, and data permissions.
  • Advise on pre-submission requirements and institutional endorsements.
  • Review submission packages for completeness and regulatory risks.
  • Support resolution of validation issues and regulatory queries.
  • Monitor approval progress and facilitate corrective actions where necessary.
  • Advise on post-approval amendments, renewals, and study closure requirements.

Pharmaceutical Responsibilities

Ensure that qualified personnel are assigned and documented for:

  • Investigational product preparation.
  • Medicine dispensing and accountability.
  • Rescue medicine and antidote management.
  • Pharmaceutical support during emergency treatment.

Required Skills

  • Investigational product and medicine preparation.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess either:

  • A Postgraduate Degree, or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following:
    • Pharmacy
    • Public Health
    • Clinical Epidemiology
    • Epidemiology
    • Clinical Research
    • Clinical Trials
    • Clinical Pharmacology
    • Or another closely related field.

Experience

Applicants should have:

  • More than 3 years of clinical research experience.
  • Strong knowledge of human drug and vaccine clinical trials.
  • Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
  • Experience with regulatory and ethics approval processes for clinical research.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian regulatory, ethics, and research permit requirements.
  • Experience using electronic regulatory and ethics submission systems.
  • Experience working with investigators, sponsors, CROs, regulatory authorities, ethics committees, permit bodies, and multidisciplinary research teams.

Language Requirements

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Excellent written and spoken Swahili.
