Background

The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) is a corporate body established under Act No. 23 of 1979 with the mandate to conduct and coordinate medical research, promote the use of research findings, and support the training of local personnel in health research.

NIMR is collaborating with Rigshospitalet (Denmark) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (United Kingdom) to implement the PHOTON Trial, a cluster-randomized study evaluating a novel nutritional intervention for preventing tuberculosis among household contacts in Tanzania.

Applications are invited from qualified and motivated candidates for the following positions.


1. Lead Study Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead coordination of trial preparation, implementation, and dissemination.
  • Coordinate local and international stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Oversee recruitment and retention activities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Medical Degree.
  • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Proven experience coordinating cluster randomized trials.
  • At least four published quantitative research articles.
  • Experience presenting research findings to scientific and stakeholder audiences.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of health or health research experience.
  • Registered with the Tanganyika Medical Council.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

2. Study Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate trial preparation and implementation.
  • Lead participant recruitment and intervention activities.
  • Engage stakeholders and ensure participant retention.

Essential Qualifications

  • Medical Degree.
  • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience coordinating clinical trials.
  • At least two published quantitative research articles.
  • Experience presenting scientific research findings.

Desirable Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of health research experience.
  • Registered with the Tanganyika Medical Council.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Highly motivated and deadline-oriented.

3. Clinical Trial Data Manager

Position Summary

Responsible for managing clinical trial data while ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), study protocols, regulatory requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role includes developing REDCap databases, Python applications, and supporting operational data management processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage REDCap databases and eCRFs.
  • Develop participant scheduling and workflow automation tools using Python.
  • Integrate applications with REDCap APIs.
  • Perform data cleaning, quality assurance, and database validation.
  • Prepare reports and support monitoring visits, audits, and database lock.
  • Develop SOPs, user guides, and train staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ clinical data management experience.
  • Advanced REDCap experience.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of R and/or Stata is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

4. Project Procurement Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Support procurement activities for the project.
  • Ensure procurement complies with institutional and national regulations.
  • Assist in efficient procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Logistics Management, Business Management (Procurement & Supply), or related field.
  • Registered with PSPTB.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ procurement experience in research or academic health institutions.
  • Experience using Tanzania’s National e-Procurement System (NeST).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

5. Human Resources / Administrative Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Support HR and administrative functions.
  • Assist in recruitment and onboarding.
  • Maintain personnel records.
  • Assist payroll validation.
  • Prepare employment contracts and appointment letters.
  • Coordinate staff training.
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws and institutional policies.
  • Monitor staff performance.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Public Administration
    • Human Resource Management
    • Human Resources Planning and Management
    • Industrial Relations
    • Business Administration (HRM)
    • Or equivalent qualifications.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in administration within NIMR projects.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.

Remuneration

Salary will be offered according to NIMR institutional guidelines.
