Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Plant Electrical Supervisor.
The role of the Supervisor Plant Electrical Supervisor is to coordinate all activities and prioritize the repair and maintenance of all Process Plant Equipment on their shift.
The Supervisor is the management’s representative in interpreting company policy/procedures and enforcing safety regulations. They interact and work closely with Process Plant Production Shift Supervisors to ensure all Plant Electrical & Instrumentation related work with in the Nyanzaga mine area of responsibility for the maintenance department is carried out in a cost effective, environmentally friendly and safe manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations:
- Adhere to company policies, procedures regarding safety, environment, health and community with the commitment to Zero Harm philosophy.
- Lead site initiatives to improve the understanding of safe working practises
- Take responsibility for ensuring that safety standards with respect to site maintenance activities are compliant with Perseus OHS&E and community relations policies and procedures, lead site initiatives to improve the understanding of equipment safety
- Understand the Tanzania Mining and OSHA Regulations with respect to engineering and safety requirements
- Ensure maintenance personnel are aware of their OHSE responsibilities and hold them accountable through the site management and disciplinary process
- Actively participate in relevant Incident investigations
- Be aware of the sensitivity of community relations and how the mining community integrates into the local community.
- Be aware and monitor Team member fatigue exposures
People Management:
- Lead the Process Plant Electrical Maintenance Team to ensure quality outcomes and procedural adherence
- Lead by example whilst maintaining the ability to work under pressure, upholding team principles and providing positive direction
- Assist in the management of the performance of direct reports through training, coaching, consistent performance feedback, annual appraisals, recognition to help facilitate their professional development, improve the efficiencies of maintenance personnel inclusive of conflict resolution as required
- Provide input to performance management, termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
Operations:
- Negotiate work priorities with Operations by adjust schedules/plans to meet their requirements
- Direct and monitor the work of maintenance personnel and contractors
- Supervise the execution of preventative Process Plant maintenance in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations with the priority focus of maintaining safety whilst sustaining production KPI’s
- Prioritise to resolve Process Plant equipment breakdowns/failures to minimize processing downtime
- Foster a positive team environment, take ownership to support training and development of assistants and apprentices
- Contact Maintenance on-call personnel as required
- Set up and supervises emergency work & scheduled overtime work as required
- Ensure that all procedural paperwork is completed and submitted on time
- Ensure that all PMG and Contract workers have the tools to comply with all procedure requirements
- Establish or adjust work schedules to meet production requirement using knowledge of capacities and available manpower inclusive of emergency work & scheduled overtime work as required
- Ensure all Control and Instrumentation Systems are calibrated, operational and maintained, leading to the reliable operation of the Process Plant Oversee maintenance plant shutdowns and start-ups.
- Carry out maintenance, repair and inspection of Instrumentation, Electrical and Control, equipment across process plant.
- Carrying out planned maintenance in accordance with the requirements of the electrical maintenance management system.
- Carry out plant modifications in accordance with drawings, standards and work instructions.
- Maintaining accurate inspection and test records to comply with current legislation and plant safety and quality requirements.
- Troubleshoot faulty/ defective electrical, control and instrumentation equipment.
- Scope repairs and provide accurate list of materials to perform relevant Process Plant Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance tasks, whilst being budget conscious
- Analyses work problems and recommend measures to improve equipment and maintenance performance, product quality, working conditions and equipment usage to increase efficiency and coordinate suggested changes
- Monitor maintenance team productivity, maintenance housekeeping, ensure HSE compliance
- Prepare daily shift reports
Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
Essential
- Minimum of 10 years’ Post Trade experience as Process Plant Electrician or Instrument Technician in Mining Process Plant Maintenance
- Minimum 5 years Supervisory experience in Gold Processing Plants and Heavy Mining or similar
- Technically capable with substantial experience in Process Plant Electrical & Instrumentation repairs, installations, maintenance of large gold processing plant equipment
- Have a strong ability to lead, coach and manage frontline teams and their individual members
- Experience and capability to exercise good judgment in appraising difficult situations, making appropriate decisions pertaining to equipment condition and appropriate corrective actions
- Ability to develop Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments for maintenance assigned tasks
- A proactive approach to Process Plant maintenance, be a driver of best practice regimes and data recording
- Thorough knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standard, understand the methodology of long term, medium-term, short-term maintenance strategies, planning, shutdowns, project works and overhaul events
- Experience with computerised maintenance management systems
- Experience with spare parts inventory management
- General knowledge of defect elimination methodologies and their interpretation
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in order of safety, time management, and cross functional organizational skills
- Strong communication skills at various organisational levels, good English language skills
- Must be literate and be capable of formal reporting, including routine maintenance reports, KPI’s
- Must have computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
- Capable of upskilling Plant Electricians and Instrument technicians to effectively perform Process Plant Maintenance requirements

Qualifications and Licences:
- Mandatory Trade qualifications – Electrician from a National regarded institution,
- Desired – Dual trade qualification being Electrician & Instrument Technician
- Tanzania manual driving licence
- Supervisory qualifications i.e., Frontline Management (desired)
- Safety qualifications (desired)
- First Aid certificate (desired)
- Formal training and assessment qualifications (desired).
