Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Plant Instrumentation Technician.

The Plant Instrument Technician is responsible for the safe installation and maintenance of field instrumentation and associated infrastructure during construction of the Nyanzaga Gold Project processing facility. Plant Electrical Instrumentation Technician reports to plant electrical supervisor.The role focuses on

• During the Construction Phase, Completing High-quality installation works in accordance with Lycopodium drawings, Tanzanian and Australian Mining Standards and ECG Engineering quality requirements. This will be a hands on role, and will transition through to Commissioning Phase of the Project.
• During the Operational Phase, ensuring that Control and Instrumentation Systems are calibrated, operational and maintained, leading to the reliable operation of the Process Plant.

Position Responsibilities:

Safety, Environment & Community:

• Lead site initiatives to improve the understanding of safe working practises
• Take responsibility for ensuring that safety standards with respect to site maintenance activities are compliant with Perseus OHS&E and community relations policies and procedures, lead site initiatives to improve the understanding of equipment safety
• Understand the Tanzania Mining and OSHA Regulations with respect to engineering and safety requirements
• Ensure maintenance personnel are aware of their OHSE responsibilities and hold them accountable through the site management and disciplinary process
• Actively participate in relevant Incident investigations
• Be aware of the sensitivity of community relations and how the mining community integrates into the local community.
• Be aware and monitor Team member fatigue exposures

People Management:

• Lead by example whilst maintaining the ability to work under pressure, upholding team principles and providing positive direction
• Operate in a team environment

Constuction Phase:

• Installation of Field Instrumentation, including instrument supports, brackets and mounting systems.
• Install HDG, PVC, stainless steel and flexible instrument conduit.
• Install instrument cable tray and support systems.
• Pull, gland and terminate instrument cables.
• Install junction boxes, marshalling panels and local control stations.
• Install stainless steel impulse tubing and pneumatic airlines.
• Install filter regulators, manifolds, solenoid valves and valve positioners.
• Install instrument earthing and bonding.
• Read P&IDs, hook-up drawings, cable schedules and GA drawings.
• Maintain high-quality workmanship and rectify punch-list items.
• Coordinate installation activities with Mechanical and Electrical crews.

Operations:

• Carry out maintenance, repair and inspection of Instrumentation, Electrical and Control, equipment across process plant.
• Assist in the development of Calibration and Inspection procedures and systems.
• Carrying out planned maintenance in accordance with the requirements of the electrical maintenance management system.
• Carry out plant modifications in accordance with drawings, standards and work instructions.
• Carrying out unplanned maintenance as instructed.
• Maintaining accurate inspection and test records to comply with current legislation and plant safety and quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot faulty/ defective electrical, control and instrumentation equipment.
• Assisting operations in diagnosing process problems and failures.
• Providing information to the projects team to support process improvements.
• Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Nyanzaga Gold Mine operations as assigned by the Supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Attributes:

Essential :

• Minimum 5 years’ Instrumentation maintenance experience within mining, mineral processing or heavy industry
• Knowledge, Understanding and Skillset for Construction Installation Works for Instrumentation Systems
• Strong understanding of preventative, predictive and reliability-centred maintenance principles
• Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
• A proactive approach to Process Plant maintenance, be a driver of best practice regimes and data recording
• Thorough knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standard, understand the methodology of long term, medium-term, short-term maintenance strategies, planning, shutdowns, project works and overhaul events
• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in order of safety, time management, and cross functional organizational skills
• Strong communication skills at various organisational levels, good English language skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within a multicultural environment and build collaborative relationships across all levels of the organisation

Qualifications and Licences:

• Trade Qualification as an Instrument Technician
• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (desired)
• Current A Grade Electrical Licence (or internationally recognised equivalent acceptable within jurisdiction)
• High Voltage Switching Authorisation
