Job Purpose
The Plant Engineer is responsible for technical leadership, asset management, reliability, and optimization of packaging plant operations.
The role ensures high plant availability, efficiency, and safety through strong engineering systems, maintenance planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Asset Management Strategy
- Lead implementation of CCBA asset management strategy in the plant
- Provide technical leadership on asset care frameworks and systems
- Ensure compliance with asset care philosophy and standards
- Support disciplined execution of standard engineering work practices
2. Asset Care Planning and Execution
- Develop and implement asset care plans for packaging operations
- Ensure team competency development for maintenance execution
- Oversee compliance with asset care programs and audits
- Manage maintenance budgets and cost controls
- Evaluate CAPIN requests for technical suitability and cost efficiency
- Contribute to maintenance strategy and planning
3. Plant Reliability
- Ensure optimal plant uptime and equipment reliability
- Lead preventive and predictive maintenance systems
- Monitor maintenance execution quality and performance
- Review maintenance scorecards and resolve deviations
- Ensure effective maintenance planning and outage execution
- Drive resolution of recurring equipment failures
4. Plant Optimization and Continuous Improvement
- Lead or support plant optimization projects and trials
- Evaluate impact of new equipment and plant modifications
- Analyze performance data to identify improvement opportunities
- Conduct root cause analysis of failures
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure CI is embedded in engineering team objectives
5. Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and develop engineering and maintenance teams
- Set and communicate team goals and performance expectations
- Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions
- Develop training and multi-skilling plans
- Manage outsourced maintenance service providers
- Ensure contractor compliance with quality, safety, and performance standards
6. Safety, Health and Housekeeping
- Enforce safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards
- Ensure compliance with OSH Act and CCBA policies
- Oversee statutory inspections and documentation
- Conduct safety audits and regular inspections
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices
- Promote strong housekeeping and workplace discipline
Skills, Experience and Education
Required Qualifications
- BSc in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical)
Added Advantage
- Proven experience as Packaging & Utility Manager
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 8 years in maintenance engineering
- At least 5 years in packaging equipment maintenance (preferred/ideal)
Key Competencies
- Strong engineering and packaging systems knowledge
- Experience in asset management and OEM collaboration
- Understanding of project management principles
- Knowledge of CCBA Manufacturing Way and asset standards
- Strong safety, health, and environmental awareness
- Financial, performance, and talent management understanding
