Job Purpose
The Process Operator is responsible for operating production equipment and ensuring high-quality manufacturing output in line with work instructions, safety standards, and quality control procedures.
The role focuses strongly on:
- Quality at source
- Process control
- Equipment operation
- Waste reduction
- Continuous improvement
- Safe production practices
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Equipment Operation & Production Control
- Operate production equipment according to work instructions and standards
- Monitor process performance against production targets
- Respond quickly to upstream and downstream production disruptions
2. Quality Assurance
- Conduct destructive and non-destructive quality checks
- Ensure compliance with quality control procedures
- Maintain “quality at source” principles
3. Waste Management & Reporting
- Record production waste accurately in systems or documentation
- Analyze waste trends and support corrective actions
- Identify opportunities for process improvement
4. Maintenance & Machine Care
- Perform autonomous maintenance tasks as scheduled
- Conduct deep cleaning, lubrication, and machine inspections
- Support breakdown maintenance and troubleshooting activities
5. Safety & Housekeeping
- Apply 5S principles in the workplace
- Follow all safety, health, and environmental (SHE) procedures
- Identify and report unsafe practices
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
6. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in problem-solving activities
- Apply tools such as:
- 5 Whys
- One Point Lessons (OPLs)
- Quick fix routines
- Contribute to process optimization initiatives
Skills, Experience and Education
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- or related technical field
Added Advantage
- Computer literacy
- Technical and machine operation skills
- Knowledge of food processing operations
Competencies
- Strong teamwork and collaboration
- Understanding of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
