Job Purpose

The Product Penetration Specialist will be responsible for managing and growing the M-Pesa business across the region by increasing customer adoption, expanding distribution channels, strengthening partner relationships, and driving revenue growth.

The role focuses on implementing strategic commercial plans, managing M-Pesa partners, coordinating campaigns, monitoring market dynamics, and ensuring continuous growth in mobile financial services.


Key Responsibilities

Regional Commercial Strategy

  • Design and implement regional M-Pesa commercial plans aligned with the annual M-Pesa strategy.
  • Increase the width and depth of M-Pesa distribution networks.
  • Drive growth in M-Pesa customer acquisition and revenue generation.
  • Develop and execute quarterly and on-demand tactical growth plans.

Sales and Distribution Management

  • Coordinate sales and distribution activities across the region.
  • Manage relationships with:
    • Wakala (Agents)
    • Super Agents
    • Merchants
  • Support M-Pesa partners while ensuring sustainable returns on investment (ROI).

Partner and Customer Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with M-Pesa partners and customers.
  • Foster M-Pesa market presence and footprint across the region.
  • Monitor partner performance and recommend improvement initiatives.

Campaign Management

  • Coordinate and manage M-Pesa ATL (Above-The-Line) marketing campaigns.
  • Coordinate BTL (Below-The-Line) promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful campaign execution.

Market Intelligence and Reporting

  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities.
  • Recommend mitigation measures against competitive threats.
  • Analyze M-Pesa performance at:
    • Regional level
    • Territory level
    • Cluster level
  • Prepare weekly performance reports for management review meetings.

Required Competencies and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Ability to manage outsourced partners and deliver business results.
  • Strong understanding of customer behavior and market dynamics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong planning and execution capabilities.
  • Sound sales and distribution experience.
  • Experience in FMCG and/or direct marketing environments.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in a Business-related field.

Professional Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in Mobile Money field sales and distribution.
  • At least 2 years in a senior-level position.
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Mobile Financial Services (MFS)
    • Mobile Money ecosystems and value chains
    • Distribution models
    • Route-to-market strategies
  • Proven experience in:
    • Mobile Money product penetration
    • Field execution
    • Commercial performance analysis
