Jhpiego provides technical assistance to Ministries of Health worldwide in areas such as cervical cancer prevention, community health, HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn health, health workforce development, family planning, malaria, and IPC/WASH.

Role Overview

Jhpiego Tanzania is preparing for the startup of a donor-funded project designed to strengthen country-led health programs. The project will support the Ministry of Health (MOH) and local partners to improve the quality, availability, and use of high-impact Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, and Nutrition (MNCH-N) services.
Jhpiego is seeking a Program Start Up Consultant for a one-month period to oversee and support startup activities, align workplans with donor and government priorities, and establish operational foundations for the project in Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities

  • Startup Management: Oversee, track, and execute startup plans in collaboration with the Jhpiego Tanzania and Global teams.
  • Workplans & Budgets: Manage the development of high-quality workplans, project charters, and budgets alongside the Finance and Operations Manager.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate and facilitate consultation meetings with donors, MOH, and key stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment.
  • Recruitment & HR: Review job descriptions and participate in recruitment interviews for incoming project and operations staff.
  • Procurement Support: Assist in developing and engaging vendors and suppliers for project implementation contracts.
  • Knowledge Management: Lead in-country document management processes, prepare feedback for global teams, and record meeting outcomes.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years managing donor-funded health programs in Tanzania (preferably focused on MNCH-N and health systems strengthening).
  • Skills: Strong project management, multi-disciplinary teamwork, adaptability, and high-level communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel domestically within Tanzania as required.
