Position: Programme Manager Nature & Climate
Organisation: Danmission East Africa
Duty Station: East Africa Regional Office (Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam, Tanzania)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Contract Duration: Three years (renewable based on performance)
Starting Date: 1 September 2026 (or no later than 1 October 2026)
Probation Period: Six months
Salary: TZS 3,000,000 – 8,000,000 per month (Negotiable)
Travel Requirements: Travel within Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, and other countries

The East Africa Regional Office coordinates programmes across the region, supporting partners in implementing development projects, policy influence initiatives, and resource mobilisation efforts.
Danmission East Africa is seeking an experienced Programme Manager – Nature & Climate to lead and oversee its nature and climate portfolio in East Africa.
About the Role
The Programme Manager will collaborate with organisations and communities in Tanzania, Kenya, and Madagascar to design, implement, monitor, evaluate, and report on nature and climate development programmes.
The role requires strong expertise in programme management, partnership development, fundraising, policy influence, and climate-related initiatives. The successful candidate will support partners in creating sustainable solutions that enable people and the environment to thrive together.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme and Project Management
- Ensure effective management of programmes and projects within the nature and climate portfolio.
- Support partners in developing project concepts, proposals, and funding applications.
- Advise the Regional Director on programme quality, coherence, and results.
- Develop project implementation plans aligned with country programmes.
- Manage project financial administration together with finance teams.
2. Fundraising and Resource Mobilisation
- Identify funding opportunities with partners and the Regional Director.
- Lead or support development of donor applications and concept notes.
- Contribute to donor mapping and relationship-building activities.
- Support mobilisation of resources for partner programmes.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning & Reporting (MEL)
- Support partners in monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes.
- Assist with outcome harvesting and documentation of programme results.
- Promote integration of:
- Human Rights-Based Approaches (HRBA)
- Gender equality principles
- Learning and accountability practices
- Support preparation of donor and stakeholder reports.
4. Partnership Development & Local Leadership
- Promote partner ownership throughout the project cycle.
- Support organisational capacity assessments and development plans.
- Facilitate partner learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.
- Support Danmission’s Local Leadership and Shifting Power Strategy.
- Strengthen partner participation in networks, coalitions, and policy processes.
5. Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure projects meet Danmission standards, donor requirements, and organisational policies.
- Support compliance with:
- Safeguarding requirements
- Anti-corruption policies
- Prevention of sexual harassment, exploitation, and abuse (PSHEA)
- Risk management procedures
6. Communication and Representation
- Document programme achievements, lessons learned, and partner stories.
- Represent Danmission in meetings, donor engagements, and coordination forums.
- Support partner visits, learning events, and exchanges.

Professional Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should have:
- Experience in international development cooperation and managing donor-funded projects.
- Experience working with institutional donors such as:
- Danida
- Global Environment Facility (GEF)
- UK Department for International Development (DFID)
- European Union (EU)
- United Nations agencies
- Technical expertise in areas such as:
- Natural resources management
- Nature-based solutions
- Coastal and marine conservation
- Water governance
- Sustainable tourism
- Strong programme management skills, including:
- Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
- Outcome harvesting
- Human Rights-Based Approaches (HRBA)
- Financial management
- Proven experience in fundraising and proposal development.
- Experience working with communities and grassroots organisations.
- Experience strengthening partnerships and organisational capacity.
- Understanding of localisation and shifting power approaches.
- Experience working in multicultural and politically sensitive environments.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Strong Kiswahili communication skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
