About the Role

The Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience will support the design, management, and implementation of climate resilience programmes, including:

  • Food Assistance for Assets (FFA)
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Landscape Rehabilitation
  • Capacity Building
  • Climate Change Adaptation
  • Partnership Development

The position reports to the Activity 7 Manager and supports WFP Tanzania’s Climate Resilience Programme under its Country Strategic Plan (2022–2028).


Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Support implementation and monitoring of integrated climate resilience projects.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor project progress.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and programme improvement.
  • Ensure timely delivery of project activities.

Programme Design

  • Develop project proposals for climate resilience initiatives.
  • Support programme planning and implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance on:
    • Natural resource management
    • Landscape rehabilitation
    • Regenerative agriculture
    • Livelihood development
    • Asset creation
    • Climate adaptation activities.

Reporting & Knowledge Management

  • Prepare programme reports.
  • Produce:
    • Knowledge products
    • Case studies
    • Briefs
    • Lessons learned
    • Standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Support evidence-based decision-making.

Coordination & Partnerships

  • Coordinate climate resilience activities across the Country Office.
  • Work closely with:
    • Government institutions
    • Development partners
    • Cooperating partners
    • Community organizations.
  • Represent WFP at meetings and public forums.
  • Build strategic partnerships.

Gender & Inclusion

  • Ensure programmes integrate:
    • Gender equality
    • Nutrition
    • Youth inclusion
    • Social inclusion.
  • Promote equitable participation of women and marginalized groups.

Capacity Building

  • Train WFP staff, partners, and government institutions.
  • Organize workshops and technical training.
  • Promote climate resilience approaches across sectors including:
    • Agriculture
    • School Feeding
    • Social Protection
    • Anticipatory Action
    • Agricultural Market Development.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Climate Studies
    • Agriculture
    • Environmental Studies
    • Natural Resource Management
    • International Development
    • Related field.

A postgraduate qualification is considered an added advantage.


Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in:
    • Climate change adaptation and mitigation
    • Natural resource management
    • Agriculture
    • Sustainable development
    • Food security
    • Rural livelihoods
    • International development.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Nutrition-sensitive programming.
  • Gender and youth inclusion.
  • Community engagement.
  • Asset creation.
  • Landscape rehabilitation.
  • Participatory development approaches.
  • Working with governments and development partners.
  • Training and workshop facilitation.
  • Knowledge of WFP processes and the UN system.
