Position Purpose

The Project Accountant is responsible for ensuring transparent, accurate, and accountable financial management of all development projects under The Salvation Army Tanzania.


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Compliance

  • Manage financial compliance for assigned projects
  • Ensure adherence to donor and organizational financial guidelines
  • Maintain strong internal financial controls

2. Accounting & Transaction Processing

  • Record supplier invoices in NetSuite
  • Process payments accurately and on time
  • Post income and expenses into project ledgers
  • Maintain accurate financial records

3. Project Funds Management

  • Create and manage project advances
  • Monitor and clear outstanding advances
  • Track project expenditures against budgets

4. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare:
    • Project financial reports
    • Donor reports
    • Budget variance analysis
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to stakeholders

5. Bank & Payroll Reconciliation

  • Perform regular bank reconciliations
  • Process payroll and ensure statutory compliance
  • Maintain accurate payroll records

6. Audit & Project Support

  • Support internal and external audits
  • Assist in project closure processes
  • Participate in project review meetings and trainings

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in NGO sector
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and compliance

Added Advantage

  • Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting systems
  • Strong experience in donor-funded projects
