Position Overview

AB InBev is seeking a qualified Quality Instrument Technician to join its team at Dar es Salaam Headquarters (DSM HQ). The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, managing, and executing asset care routines to optimize the reliability and availability of quality assurance instrumentation while supporting product quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.


Key Purpose of the Role

To implement, manage, and execute asset care routines that ensure:

  • High reliability and availability of quality assurance equipment.
  • Consistent product quality.
  • Efficient plant operations.
  • Continuous improvement through Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) principles.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Asset Care & Equipment Reliability

The Quality Instrument Technician will:

  • Implement and execute asset care routines for quality assurance instrumentation.
  • Maintain and improve equipment reliability, availability, and performance.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation systems.
  • Identify equipment risks and proactively prevent failures.
  • Ensure calibration and validation of instruments meet quality standards.

2. Quality Assurance & Process Control

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor process inputs and outputs to maintain product quality.
  • Apply and enforce Quality Focused Requirements (QFR).
  • Implement and follow QFR reaction plans.
  • Support production teams in resolving quality deviations.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards and regulatory requirements.

3. Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct root cause analysis using the 5 Whys methodology and other problem-solving tools.
  • Maintain and update Problem Terminator and other problem-solving systems.
  • Prepare and execute AB Reports for deviation and performance analysis.
  • Evaluate corrective actions and ensure sustainable improvements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO).

4. Project & Systems Management

Responsibilities include:

  • Support instrumentation and quality-related CAPEX projects.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and optimization of new equipment.
  • Utilize digital tools and VPO systems for monitoring and reporting.
  • Maintain proper technical documentation and knowledge transfer.

5. Training & Capability Development

The technician will:

  • Train frontline employees on Quality Focused Requirements and reaction plans.
  • Coach autonomous teams on equipment operation and best practices.
  • Complete all required onboarding and technical competency programs.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with the Skills Knowledge and Application Program (SKAP).

6. Operational Excellence & VPO Alignment

The role requires:

  • Applying Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) principles in daily operations.
  • Participating in autonomous team structures.
  • Using structured problem-solving and performance tracking tools.
  • Supporting achievement of plant performance targets.

7. Performance & KPI Accountability

The successful candidate will:

  • Improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
  • Support Brewery/Business Wide Controls performance targets.
  • Monitor instrumentation performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with operational, safety, and quality KPIs.

8. Compliance & Safety

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental, and company standards.
  • Following regulatory requirements for instrumentation systems.
  • Maintaining safe work practices when handling electrical and instrumentation equipment.

9. Collaboration & Communication

The Quality Instrument Technician will:

  • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Communicate equipment status, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical support during audits, inspections, and performance reviews.

Key Attributes & Competencies

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Completion of Workday 90-day onboarding modules.
  • Full understanding of Instrumentation Technician SKAP requirements.
  • Proficiency in digital systems and VPO tools.
  • Ability to apply Advanced Technical Operator (ATO) Levels 1–5 competencies.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing process inputs and outputs.
  • Knowledge of Quality Focused Requirements (QFR).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • N3 Instrumentation/Electrical Qualification or
  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

  • 1–2 years’ experience in:
    • Instrumentation
    • Electrical maintenance
    • Manufacturing environment
  • Experience within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry is required.
