Job Overview

Compassion is seeking an experienced Regional Portfolio Lead – Africa to provide strategic leadership and oversight for emergency response and disaster preparedness programmes funded through a U.S. Government grant.

The successful candidate will oversee programme implementation across multiple African countries, strengthen partner relationships, ensure donor compliance, manage risks, monitor performance, and support humanitarian and resilience-building initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio & Programme Management

  • Provide strategic leadership for a regional portfolio of emergency response and disaster preparedness programmes.
  • Coordinate programme planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and performance management.
  • Coordinate consortium members, regional teams, donor representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor deliverables, KPIs, programme quality, and timelines.
  • Support continuous improvement of emergency preparedness, response, and resilience programmes.

Grant Compliance & Financial Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Government grant regulations, award conditions, organizational policies, and local regulations.
  • Oversee budget performance, financial forecasts, pipeline management, and accountability.
  • Identify and mitigate programme, operational, financial, and compliance risks.
  • Contribute to donor reports, work plans, monitoring frameworks, and project documentation.

Learning & Capacity Development

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices across countries.
  • Support capacity development for partners and staff.
  • Provide coaching, training, and technical assistance in portfolio management, emergency response, and donor compliance.

Representation & Business Development

  • Represent Compassion at donor meetings, technical working groups, and regional coordination forums.
  • Contribute to proposal development and programme design.
  • Support strategic planning for future humanitarian and resilience funding.
  • Travel internationally to support implementation and stakeholder relationships.

Education Requirements

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in:

  • International Development
  • Humanitarian Assistance
  • Emergency Management
  • International Relations
  • Public Administration
  • A related field

Experience Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • At least 10 years of progressive experience managing complex humanitarian, disaster preparedness, resilience, or international development programmes.
  • Experience managing multi-country portfolios.
  • Demonstrated experience managing U.S. Government-funded awards.
  • Strong knowledge of donor regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience leading and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders across countries and cultures.
