Job Purpose
The Relationship Manager – Agri Retail Monitoring is responsible for monitoring the quality of the Agri Retail Loans portfolio by tracking arrears across the branch network, ensuring timely rectification of identified issues, and following up on the submission of post-approval loan conditions and supporting documentation.
Main Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise the performance and quality of the entire Agri Retail loan portfolio issued and disbursed across the branch network.
- Conduct daily and weekly analysis of key portfolio indicators, including delinquency, concentration, and repayment trends, to identify early warning signals and recommend timely intervention strategies to the branch network.
- Ensure Agri Retail loan products are processed and delivered in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and credit policies, escalating procedural deviations to the Line Manager for corrective action.
- Support the growth of the asset book by conducting daily, weekly, and monthly performance tracking for each Relationship Manager (RM) and branch against budgetary targets.
- Collaborate with Credit Operations and the Credit Administration team to support efficient loan disbursement processes and improve turnaround time (TAT) for field teams.
- Conduct monthly reviews of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for Agri Retail, covering client products, business practices, lending activities, annual facility reviews, and compliance.
- Review issues related to Agri Retail recorded in NMB Cure and provide solutions or forward them to the respective Line Manager for input and closure.
- Prepare detailed periodic and ad-hoc evaluation reports on Agri Retail performance, covering both assets, including loan quality and growth, and liabilities, including deposits, on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis for senior management.
- Train and coach field Relationship Officers (ROs) and Relationship Managers (RMs) on business best practices, lending processes, and accurate evaluation and assessment methodologies for Agri Retail loan applicants.
- Actively participate in departmental sales, portfolio quality, and planning meetings, providing data-driven insights and representing the monitoring function.
- Support the branch network in successfully implementing strategic initiatives such as rural banking expansion and new product rollouts.
Knowledge and Skills
Applicants should have:
- Sound knowledge of agribusiness economics, the role of credit in business, and business development.
- Sound knowledge of Agribusiness Retail Banking products and services across agricultural value chains.
- Excellent knowledge of agriculture sector dynamics and relevant laws.
- Sound understanding of other banks’ loan products, policies, and procedures for cross-selling purposes.
- Excellent knowledge of banking operations and financial markets in Tanzania.
- Sound knowledge of agricultural markets and the general business environment within agricultural value chains.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Excellent English and Kiswahili communication skills.
- Strong numerical, analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivation, innovation, and the ability to initiate and lead change.
- Good customer relationship management skills and a strong focus on providing solutions to customer expectations.
- Managerial and leadership skills, including conceptual thinking and resourcefulness.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills for both internal and external customers.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- People management, representation, team-building, and high-performing team development skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Relevant professional certification(s), subject to the specific role requirements.
- A Master’s Degree in Business Studies is an added advantage.
- Postgraduate education in Banking and/or banking certification(s) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 4 years of banking experience, including experience in credit assessment, project appraisal, and other banking operations.
