Job Purpose

Equity Bank Tanzania is seeking a Relationship Manager – Business to supervise staff within the Branch Business Development Unit and lead sales and business development activities.

The position is responsible for driving growth in the customer base, CASA and term deposits, quality loan portfolios, non-funded income (NFI), cross-selling of banking products, and maintaining strong client relationships in line with the Bank’s business targets and KPIs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and negotiate business opportunities that support branch targets and the Bank’s overall strategy.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans and sales strategies for the branch.
  • Drive growth of CASA deposits and contribute significantly to overall branch deposits.
  • Grow a quality loan portfolio across customer segments and business sectors while generating income in line with targets.
  • Increase the customer base and encourage active use of customer accounts.
  • Recruit Equity Agents and Super Agents in line with branch targets and increase transaction volumes.
  • Recruit merchants and monitor POS performance to achieve business targets.
  • Ensure customers are onboarded onto ABC platforms and increase digital transactions while reducing branch traffic.
  • Grow non-funded income through cross-selling trade finance, transactional banking, insurance, and other products and services.
  • Cross-sell Bank products and increase product usage per customer.
  • Reduce the number of dormant accounts within the branch customer base.
  • Manage and strengthen existing customer relationships to support customer retention.
  • Review loan portfolios and recommend appropriate interventions to maintain portfolio performance.
  • Liaise with clients, government institutions, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to safeguard the Bank’s interests.
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor Relationship Officers while ensuring quality business onboarding and compliance with Bank policies, KYC, and AML requirements.
  • Meet and interact with existing segmented clients to strengthen relationships, build confidence, and promote customer loyalty.
  • Provide timely reports, recommendations, and business performance updates to management.
  • Coordinate activities with the Commercial Department and other Head Office stakeholders.
  • Advise the Branch General Manager/Business Development and Growth Manager (BGDM) on branch business growth and people-management matters.
  • Participate in branch budgeting and annual planning.
  • Collect and prepare market intelligence on corporate and retail products and services.
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the BGDM.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Financial Planner or Credit Analyst are an added advantage.
  • Formal credit training is highly valued.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 3 years of banking experience.
  • Experience in business development channels including trade finance, project finance, export development, and asset financing.
  • Proven track record in portfolio management, business development, and client acquisition.
  • Strong understanding of banking products and services, particularly:
    • Syndication
    • Co-financing
    • Club deals
    • Correspondent banking
    • Letters of credit
    • Factoring
    • Forfaiting
    • Structured trade finance
    • Carbon financing
    • Corporate finance risk participation
    • Project-related financing
  • Understanding of structured trade finance operating models, particularly credit risk management and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of trade finance markets and their participants across major African markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of other Bank working languages is an added advantage.
  • Experience marketing trade and project finance products is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work extended hours when required.
