Job Summary

The Relationship Manager Financial Institutions & Non-Banking Financial Institutions will support the leadership teams overseeing country Global Corporates and Financial Institutions (FIG) business.

The role is responsible for developing and managing FIG opportunities in Tanzania, including international clients with an African hub located in Tanzania. The position will support new customer acquisition, deepen share of wallet among existing international FIG corporate clients, and create global alignment with FIG bankers while leveraging Absa Group’s relationships and capabilities.

The role will work closely with Global and African corporate bankers, country product teams, relationship directors and sector heads to ensure appropriate products are offered to clients, relationships remain healthy, and new and existing business opportunities are maximized within acceptable risk levels.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure understanding of global FIG client behaviour and needs.
  • Coordinate country clients and proactively develop client solutions.
  • Assist with country client acquisition.
  • Support Global, Regional and Local Bankers.
  • Develop African relationships for Global Bankers and act as a coordination point for relationship opportunities originating from Tanzania.
  • Manage client relationships and maximize revenue through account planning, analysis of current products and revenues, and detailed analysis of in-country clients to identify growth opportunities.
  • Understand client requirements and opportunities and assist in providing innovative solutions.
  • Assist in driving pitches to successful closure and tracking client deep dives.
  • Track action points following client visits to ensure closure of issues and pipeline opportunities.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders across Absa and the wider Absa network.
  • Maintain a good understanding of credit policy and assist in resolving client-related credit matters.
  • Assist with the credit process where limits are required.
  • Maintain close liaison with FIG heads.
  • Focus on pipeline closure.
  • Focus on achieving the Country FIG budget.
  • Support the client interface into the business.
  • Assist with client annual business reviews.

Risk & Controls Objectives

  • Act as crisis coordinator and allocate tasks to crisis teams in the event of major issues within the business unit.
  • Regularly review the risk and compliance profiles of the business unit and provide consultative support to the Managing Director on changes required to balance risk and reward.
  • Understand the role played in end-to-end processes, including applicable risks and controls.
  • Adhere to Absa’s policies and procedures, demonstrating sound judgment and responsible risk management.
  • Keep up to date with regulatory changes and understand and articulate their impact on the business.
  • Complete all mandatory training within the required deadlines.

Education & Experience Required

  • University degree in Business, Economics, Commerce or an equivalent field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce and Management Studies is required.
  • 3–5 years of Corporate Banking experience.
  • Banking experience with Financial Institution Groups.
  • Minimum 2 years of successful and relevant relationship management experience.

Knowledge, Experience & Professional Skills

  • Background in commercial banking products, preferably with experience of African business.
  • Strong solution-driven approach.
  • Knowledge of debt and investment banking products.
  • Results-oriented mindset.
  • Knowledge of Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs) and the regulatory environment in which they operate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Other Requirements

  • A university degree in Business, Economics or an equivalent field is a prerequisite.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Banking in Tanzania.
  • Sound knowledge and expertise in working with multinationals, financial institutions, NBFIs and major NGOs in Tanzania.
  • Outstanding knowledge of control and governance requirements and the operating environment.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in Corporate Banking in emerging markets.
  • Proven relationship management track record and established relationships within the corporate banking field in emerging markets.
