Position Overview
Barrick Africa and Middle East Team is seeking a qualified Safety Officer to join the North Mara Gold Mine (NMGML) team. The successful candidate will support the implementation and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety systems, promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with company standards and legal requirements, and contribute to achieving Barrick’s goal of Zero Harm.

Key Responsibilities
Occupational Health & Safety Management
- Assist in implementing the North Mara Gold Mine Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
- Support implementation of ISO 45001:2018 standards.
- Ensure mining activities comply with Barrick Safety and Health Standards and applicable legislation.
- Maintain the nine elements of Barrick’s Safety and Health Management System.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across the mine.
Risk Management
- Facilitate:
- Baseline Risk Assessments
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
- Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA)
- Promote effective risk management practices.
- Participate in reviewing safe work procedures.
- Ensure timely close-out of corrective actions following incidents.
Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct regular workplace safety inspections across mine operations and contractor facilities.
- Monitor compliance with:
- Safety standards
- PPE requirements
- Safe work practices
- Provide safety coaching and guidance to employees and contractors.
Incident Investigation
- Assist supervisors in accident and incident investigations.
- Conduct investigations using approved Barrick methodologies.
- Prepare investigation reports and recommend corrective actions.
Equipment & Operational Safety
- Ensure site equipment is:
- Properly maintained
- Regularly inspected
- Monitored through documented systems
- Verify:
- Pre-start inspections
- Maintenance schedules
- Fault reporting and corrective actions
Training & Awareness
- Develop occupational safety training materials.
- Deliver safety training to employees and contractors.
- Support continuous improvement of workforce safety awareness.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare:
- Daily activity reports
- Weekly safety statistics
- Monthly reports
- Quarterly safety reports
- Annual safety performance reports
- Analyze trends and recommend improvements.
Communication & Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Department heads
- Contractors
- Project managers
- Safety personnel
- Attend departmental safety meetings.
- Provide technical support to visitors when required.
- Perform other duties assigned by Occupational Health & Safety leadership.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
- NOSHC Certificate or NEBOSH Certificate.
- Certificate III/IV in Occupational Health and Safety.
Experience
Candidates should have:
- Minimum 3 years of mining experience in:
- Open Pit Mining
- Underground Mining
- Experience with:
- ISO 45001:2018
- Safety Management Systems
- Accident and incident investigations
- Process Safety Management

Additional Requirements
- Valid Tanzania driver’s license with proven driving competency.
- Ability to work collaboratively with departments, contractors, and project teams.
- Membership in an Emergency Response Team (ERT) is an added advantage.
