Qualifications and Skills Required

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences.
• Work Experience: At least three years of field experience in the cement, construction or oil and gas industries. Relevant industry experience is mandatory.
• Certification: A health and safety qualification recognized by NOSHC, as stated in the vacancy announcement.
• Knowledge of Legislation: Ability to apply Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), National Environment Management Council (NEMC) and fire safety policies and regulations.
• Risk Assessment: Experience in conducting risk assessments, investigating accidents and preparing incident reports.
• Communication Skills: Excellent reporting and communication abilities.
• Computer Skills: Competence in standard computer applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Safety Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Liaise with NEMC, OSHA and fire authorities to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements.
2. Implement and promote approved health, safety and environmental plans and policies at the plant.
3. Conduct HSE inductions, refresher training sessions and fire drills.
4. Carry out daily safety inspections and HSE audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
5. Lead emergency preparedness activities, response planning and plant hygiene initiatives.
6. Coordinate pollution control, waste management and recycling activities.
7. Conduct environmental impact assessments and provide HSE training to employees.
