1. Senior Medical Doctor

Number of Posts: 1
Department: Health and Community
Reports To: Occupational Health Manager
Roster: 6 Weeks On, 3 Weeks Off
Contract: Open-Ended

Role Purpose

The Senior Medical Doctor will provide clinical leadership and comprehensive medical services, including primary healthcare, emergency medicine, occupational health and public health.

The position will also be responsible for managing the on-site medical clinic and health programmes in accordance with Tanzanian laws and Shanta Gold standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, treatment and management of medical cases, including emergencies, trauma and occupational health conditions.
  • Lead and coordinate the on-site medical clinic, ensuring compliance with Tanzanian laws, Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT) requirements and company standards.
  • Manage medical personnel and clinic operations, including staff scheduling, training, performance management and leave planning.
  • Develop and implement occupational health programmes, medical surveillance and statutory medical examinations in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Lead emergency medical response and coordinate aeromedical evacuations and referrals to external medical facilities.
  • Develop and implement public health programmes for employees and host communities, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and non-communicable diseases.
  • Manage procurement, inventory and budgets relating to medical supplies and pharmaceutical products.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, reports and statutory registers.
  • Liaise with external medical providers and relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Provide project management support for health initiatives.
  • Support community health dispensaries.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Head of Department.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • MBChB, MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Full registration and a valid practising licence with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT).
  • At least 7 years of post-internship clinical experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an industrial, mining or occupational health environment.
  • Current certification in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
  • Strong clinical, leadership and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of Tanzanian health and occupational health regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote mining-site environment.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.

2. Occupational Health Nurse

Department: Health and Community
Reports To: Mine Medical Doctor
Roster: 6 Weeks On, 3 Weeks Off
Contract: Open-Ended

Role Purpose

The Occupational Health Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care, support occupational health services and assist in implementing health programmes aimed at safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of employees and contractors at New Luika Gold Mine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical nursing care, including patient assessment, triage, medication administration and monitoring of patient conditions.
  • Assist with occupational health medical surveillance, including:
    • Pre-employment medical examinations.
    • Periodic medical examinations.
    • Return-to-work medical examinations.
    • Exit medical examinations.
  • Maintain accurate occupational health and medical records.
  • Provide first-line treatment for work-related injuries.
  • Assist with statutory injury documentation and Workers Compensation Fund (WCF) claims.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures, including:
    • ECG.
    • Spirometry.
    • Audiometry.
    • Rapid tests.
    • Sample collection.
  • Ensure proper documentation of diagnostic procedures and results.
  • Support emergency response, resuscitation and evacuation procedures.
  • Maintain valid BLS certification.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well-equipped clinical environment.
  • Monitor and manage stocks of medical consumables.
  • Contribute to workplace health risk assessments.
  • Support health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
  • Maintain statutory occupational health registers.
  • Assist in preparing reports for OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support health education activities.
  • Participate in vaccination programmes and community health initiatives.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Head of Department.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery or equivalent qualification.
  • Full registration and a valid practising licence with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
  • At least 2 years of post-registration clinical experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an industrial, mining or occupational health environment.
  • Current certification in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Good clinical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work in a remote mining-site environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
