Number of Positions: Three (03)

Objective of the Role

To install and maintain underground mining services including air lines, water lines, dewatering systems, secondary ventilation systems, electrical cables, cable bolts, pumps, and other underground infrastructure. The role also involves supporting underground development activities, operating underground vehicles and equipment, and ensuring safe and efficient mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety and Compliance

• Promote a Zero Harm safety culture.
• Conduct hazard identification using Take 5 tools.
• Report all safety incidents, hazards, and equipment damage.
• Comply with all Underground Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Underground Service Installation

• Install underground air, water, and dewatering lines.
• Ensure services are installed within 20 meters of the working face.
• Install droppers and maintain services 1.5 meters above ground level.

Ventilation Installation

• Install secondary ventilation fans according to approved plans.
• Hang and extend ventilation ducting to at least 20 meters from the face.
• Ensure adequate airflow in development headings.

Pump Operations and Maintenance

• Install and operate electrical submersible pumps.
• Set pumps in sumps and declines for water removal.
• Support and suspend pump cables correctly.
• Monitor pump functionality and water management systems.

Mono Pump Maintenance

• Clean and inspect mono pumps.
• Check drain valves and pipe connections.
• Clean mono tanks, ladders, and landing platforms.
• Ensure pumps remain operational and efficient.

Cable Bolt Installation

• Install, grout, and tension cable bolts.
• Prepare cement grout mixtures.
• Transport and insert cables into drilled holes.
• Apply tension according to geotechnical standards.
• Maintain good housekeeping after completing work.

Electrical Cable Management

• Hang and retrieve electrical cables underground.
• Secure cables on hooks and separate them from service lines.
• Protect cables from damage by mobile equipment.
• Install signage for jumbo trailing cables.

Equipment Operation

• Operate underground machinery, including:
  • Articulated Dump Trucks (ADT)
  • Integrated Tool Carrier (IT)
  • Underground Light Vehicles
• Transport materials and equipment between underground locations.

Heading Setup and Ground Support

• Load and transport ground support materials such as:
  • Bolts
  • Plates
  • Chemical resins
  • Mesh
• Deliver materials to underground headings.
• Tow and position mesh correctly.
• Deliver lifter tubes to drilling locations.

General Underground Support

• Collect tools, consumables, and equipment from stores.
• Deliver materials underground.
• Return unused support materials to storage areas.
• Conduct personnel transport (men runs).
• Manage underground stock levels in bolt and mesh stores.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Qualifications

• Completion of Secondary School Education.
• Vocational Training Certificate from a recognized institution.
• Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence.
• Ability to drive on a mining site.
• Valid Blasting Licence is an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

• 0–2 years of experience in an underground mining environment.
• Experience driving manual transmission vehicles.
• Experience operating underground utility vehicles.
• Experience working underground as an Offsider or Nipper is an advantage.

• Competence in operating an Integrated Tool Carrier (IT Machine).
• Strong understanding of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) tools.
• Good reporting and record-keeping skills.
