Tax and Accounts Specialist

Position Overview
We are seeking a capable Tax and Accounts Specialist to join our Dar es Salaam team. The role supports the delivery of tax, accounting, and financial compliance services for a diverse client portfolio under the Tanzanian regulatory framework.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, tax compliance, and high-quality client service across multiple engagements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax and Accounting Management
- Manage tax and accounting assignments for client portfolios in line with Tanzanian legal, tax, and financial reporting standards
- Prepare and review:
- Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Management accounts
- Ledgers and reconciliations
2. Tax Compliance
- Support tax compliance processes including:
- Tax computations and returns
- Objections and assessments follow-up
- Correspondence with the Tanzania Revenue Authority and other authorities
- Assist clients with statutory obligations including:
- VAT
- PAYE
- SDL
- Withholding tax
- Corporate income tax
3. Bookkeeping and Financial Records
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records
- Ensure timely posting of:
- Journals
- Bank reconciliations
- Payroll allocations
- Month-end close entries
4. Audit and Reporting Support
- Support audit engagements by:
- Preparing audit schedules
- Responding to auditor queries
- Coordinating documentation with internal and external teams
5. Systems and Process Support
- Support clients with accounting systems and reporting processes
- Prepare Excel-based working papers and reports
- Work with accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks
6. Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to internal process improvements
- Support senior staff in delivering efficient and timely client services
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or ACCA qualification (mandatory)
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in:
- Tax
- Accounting
- Audit
- Business advisory (preferably in consulting or professional services)
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian:
- Tax laws
- Accounting standards
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks)
