The Opportunity

RSM Tanzania is looking for a Tax Associate to join its tax practice.

The successful candidate will support clients in navigating tax regulations while maintaining high standards of accuracy, compliance, and advisory service. The role provides exposure to different clients, industries, and tax matters while working alongside experienced tax professionals.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification or ongoing studies toward CPA, ACCA, ADIT, or a related tax qualification is an added advantage.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in tax compliance, tax advisory, accounting, or tax consulting.
  • Good understanding of Tanzanian tax laws and regulations, including:
    • Corporate Income Tax
    • VAT
    • Withholding Tax
    • PAYE
    • Other statutory obligations
  • Experience preparing:
    • Tax computations
    • Tax returns
    • Reconciliations
    • Supporting schedules
  • Basic practical exposure to TRA audits, tax assessments, objections, and tax disputes is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to research and interpret tax legislation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and take guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Willingness to continuously develop technical tax knowledge.
  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to quality.

Key Responsibilities

The Tax Associate will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a minimum annual productivity target of 75%.
  • Delivering assigned engagements within budgeted timelines.
  • Providing timely progress updates to the Tax Senior or Manager.
  • Preparing accurate and well-documented workpapers in accordance with firm standards.
  • Addressing and clearing review notes within agreed timelines.
  • Identifying, communicating, and escalating engagement risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Participating in continuous professional development, technical training, and CPD activities.
  • Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Providing effective communication and exceptional client service.
