United Bank for Africa (UBA) is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to join its Corporate Banking team as Team Lead, Oil & Gas / Energy.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving Corporate and Commercial Banking business within the Oil & Gas / Energy sector, focusing on client acquisition, relationship management, credit quality, portfolio growth, profitability, and achievement of business targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire new corporate and commercial clients within the Oil & Gas/Energy sector.
  • Manage and strengthen existing client relationships.
  • Generate new-to-bank business and reactivate dormant accounts to increase deposits.
  • Conduct regular customer site visits to assess operations, assets, equipment, premises, and collateral.
  • Monitor market trends and customer requirements within the Oil & Gas/Energy sector.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate banking products and integrated financial solutions.
  • Build client retention strategies and maintain regular contact with key client executives.
  • Monitor credit facilities, risk triggers, conditions, and covenants.
  • Monitor non-performing and deteriorating accounts and initiate recovery actions where required.
  • Recommend viable and profitable risk assets to support business growth.
  • Source and monitor customer investments and banking facilities.
  • Achieve targets for Revenue/PBT, deposits, risk assets, guarantees, foreign exchange, fees, and commissions.
  • Lead, supervise, coach, and develop Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers.
  • Research industry trends, regulations, emerging products, and sector risks.
  • Review and analyse credit applications and prepare credit memoranda in accordance with Bank policy.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s policies, procedures, Credit Policy, and HR Policy.
  • Prepare timely and accurate performance reports.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Corporate Banking.

Key Performance Indicators

Performance will be measured against:

  • Approved PBT targets for the Oil & Gas/Energy sector.
  • Annual deposit and risk asset targets.
  • Fees and commission targets.
  • Client acquisition and conversion.
  • Dormant account reactivation.
  • Growth and quality of the managed portfolio.
  • Profitability and quality of the risk asset book.
  • Performance of Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers.
  • Quality and timeliness of performance reports.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or social sciences from a reputable university.
  • An MBA, higher degree, or relevant professional certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant banking experience.
  • Experience/exposure in the Oil & Gas/Energy sector.
  • Strong credit and relationship management experience.
