United Bank for Africa (UBA) is seeking a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Team Lead, FMCG / Manufacturing within its Corporate Banking function.

Job Summary

The Team Lead will be responsible for driving Corporate and Commercial Banking business within the FMCG and Manufacturing sector, with a focus on client acquisition, relationship management, revenue growth, credit quality, portfolio management, and achievement of business targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive acquisition of new corporate and commercial clients within the FMCG/Manufacturing sector.
  • Manage and strengthen existing client relationships and improve customer retention.
  • Generate new-to-bank business and reactivate dormant relationships to grow deposits.
  • Conduct regular customer site visits and assess business operations, assets, premises, equipment, and collateral.
  • Analyse FMCG and Manufacturing market trends and identify customer needs and business opportunities.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate banking products and solutions for sector clients.
  • Monitor credit facilities, risk triggers, conditions, and covenants.
  • Monitor non-performing, watch-listed, and deteriorating accounts and initiate recovery actions where necessary.
  • Recommend viable and profitable risk assets to improve portfolio profitability.
  • Manage customer investments and banking facilities.
  • Achieve targets relating to revenue/PBT, deposits, risk assets, guarantees, foreign exchange, fees, and commissions.
  • Lead, supervise, coach, and develop Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers.
  • Research industry trends, regulations, emerging products, and potential risks affecting the sector.
  • Review and analyse credit applications and prepare credit memoranda in accordance with Bank policy.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s policies, procedures, Credit Policy, and HR requirements.
  • Prepare timely and accurate performance reports.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Corporate Banking.

Key Performance Indicators

The successful candidate will be expected to achieve:

  • Approved PBT targets for the FMCG/Manufacturing sector.
  • Annual targets for deposits, risk assets, fees and commissions.
  • Client acquisition and conversion targets.
  • Dormant account reactivation targets.
  • Growth and quality of the managed portfolio.
  • A viable and profitable risk asset book.
  • Strong commercial banking relationships.
  • Effective performance of Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers.
  • Timely and accurate performance reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or social sciences from a reputable university.
  • An MBA, higher degree, or relevant professional certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant banking experience.
  • Experience or exposure in the FMCG/Manufacturing sector is required.
  • Strong credit and relationship management experience is required.
