The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields of northwestern Tanzania, approximately:
- 85 km from Mwanza
- 20 km southeast of Lake Victoria
- 5 km west of Geita town
GGML also maintains a support office in Dar es Salaam.
The company is seeking ambitious, energetic, and performance-driven Tanzanian professionals to join its Exploration team.
Objective of the Role
The Technician 2 – Exploration Coreyard is responsible for supporting geological and geotechnical exploration activities, including:
- Field exploration campaigns
- Drilling programs
- Core yard operations
- Geological data collection
- Technical exploration support activities
The position reports to the Supervisor – Core Yard and works closely with:
- Geologists
- Mining operations personnel
- Mining technical teams
- Geology contractors
The role aims to ensure exploration activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Lead HSE compliance activities.
- Conduct toolbox meetings.
- Identify workplace hazards and implement control measures.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions are identified.
Geological & Exploration Activities
- Conduct field geological mapping.
- Assist with sample collection.
- Record geological and GPS data.
- Support geological investigations and exploration programs.
Drilling Operations
- Supervise drill site preparation.
- Assist with drill rig setup and alignment.
- Monitor drilling activities.
- Document core recovery.
- Ensure proper Reverse Circulation (RC) sampling practices.
Core Yard Activities
- Perform geotechnical logging.
- Conduct basic geological logging.
- Support geological interpretation through accurate data collection.
Geophysical Survey Support
- Prepare survey grids.
- Set up survey equipment and cables.
- Record and verify geophysical data.
- Conduct quality control checks.
Data & Team Coordination
- Monitor downhole survey quality.
- Manage sample preparation and laboratory submissions.
- Communicate operational progress.
- Coach and guide junior team members.
- Coordinate and lead small workplace teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma Holders
- Diploma in Geology or related Geoscience field.
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
Secondary School Certificate Holders
- Secondary School Certificate with extensive equivalent field experience in exploration and geological operations.
Experience Requirements
For Diploma Holders
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
For Secondary School Certificate Holders
- More than 7 years of experience in:
- Exploration drilling environments
- Geotechnical logging
- Field geological data collection
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in exploration drilling operations.
- Knowledge of geotechnical logging techniques.
- Competence in field data collection and reporting.
- Strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
- Valid Tanzanian driving licence with practical driving experience.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Leadership and team coordination skills.
