Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer, operating a single mining operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries across four continents.
The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields of northwestern Tanzania, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. GGML’s head office is in Geita, about 5 km west of the fast-growing town of Geita, with a supporting office in Dar es Salaam.

Position
Technician 2 – Exploration Coreyard
Objective of the role
The overall purpose of the Technician 2 – Exploration role within the Exploration Section is to provide support for geological and geotechnical exploration activities. These activities include field campaigns, drilling programmes, and other technical functions at the Core Yard.
The role focuses specifically on technical fieldwork, data collection, and operational exploration tasks to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant exploration operations.
The role holder will report to the Supervisor – Core Yard and will collaborate with geologists, mining operations teams, mining technical personnel, and geology contractors.
Role accountabilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Lead HSE compliance through toolbox meetings, hazard identification, and implementation of controls.
- Conduct field geological mapping.
- Assist with sample collection.
- Record geological and GPS data.
- Oversee drill site preparation and drilling activities.
- Support rig setup and alignment.
- Document core recovery.
- Support reverse circulation (RC) sampling practices.
- Perform Core Yard geotechnical logging.
- Conduct basic geological logging to support geological interpretations.
- Support geophysical surveys by preparing grids.
- Set up survey equipment and cables.
- Log geophysical data while maintaining quality control.
- Monitor downhole survey quality.
- Manage sampling and laboratory preparation activities.
- Communicate work progress to relevant teams and supervisors.
- Stop work where unsafe conditions are identified.
- Coach and guide subordinates where required.
Role requirements
Education and qualifications
Applicants should meet the following education and qualification requirements:
- Diploma in Geology, Geoscience, or related fields.
- Secondary School Certificate holders may be considered if they have extensive equivalent field experience in the same field.
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
Experience
Applicants should have the following experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of working experience for Diploma holders.
- More than 7 years of working experience in exploration drilling environments, geotechnical logging, and field data collection for Secondary School Certificate holders.
Knowledge and skills
The ideal candidate should have the following knowledge and skills:
- Computer literacy, especially in MS Excel and MS Word.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Good experience in exploration drilling operations.
- Good experience in geotechnical logging and field data collection.
- Good understanding of HSE practices and operational standards.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Driving experience with a valid Tanzanian driving licence.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to coordinate and lead small teams at the workplace.
