GGML is inviting applications from qualified, energetic, and performance-driven individuals for the position of Tradesperson 1 – Underground Plant Fitter Mechanics.

Position Objective

To safely and effectively execute maintenance activities on underground mining infrastructure, including:

• Preventive maintenance
• Planned maintenance
• Breakdown maintenance
• Installation and commissioning work

The role supports the Underground Engineering Department in maintaining reliable and efficient operation of underground infrastructure equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

• Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations and procedures.
• Identify, assess, and control workplace risks and hazards.
• Report unsafe conditions and take corrective action where appropriate.
• Complete Take 5 risk assessments before commencing work.

Mechanical Maintenance

• Conduct inspections, servicing, and maintenance of underground infrastructure equipment.
• Perform repairs according to work instructions and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) requirements.
• Ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Breakdown Diagnosis and Repairs

• Diagnose equipment faults and failures.
• Perform planned and emergency breakdown repairs.
• Minimize equipment downtime through effective troubleshooting and maintenance practices.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

• Comply with:
  • Mining legislation
  • Engineering standards
  • Company procedures
  • AngloGold Ashanti and GGML requirements
• Participate in audits and inspections when required.

Communication and Reporting

• Communicate maintenance issues promptly to supervisors.
• Report tooling and equipment problems.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.

Operational Support

• Support maintenance scheduling activities.
• Ensure maintenance tasks are completed within agreed timelines.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
• Maintain discipline, punctuality, and professional conduct.

Educational Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

• Form IV Secondary Education Certificate.

AND

One of the following:

• VETA Qualification Grade I / Level III

OR

• Diploma / Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in:
  • Mining
  • Manufacturing
  • Related industrial environments

Experience working with the following equipment is required:

• Centrifugal pumps
• Submersible pumps
• Mono pumps (oil, slurry, and water)
• Gearboxes
• Fans
• Pump stations
• Compressors
