About the Role
Perseus Mining Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced TSF Supervisor to oversee Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction and operational activities.
The successful candidate will ensure that tailings management activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, approved designs, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
The role involves working closely with construction teams, tailings specialists, engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders to support safe and effective TSF management.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Phase
The TSF Supervisor will:
- Ensure TSF and related civil infrastructure construction activities are completed safely.
- Ensure construction works comply with the Perseus Tailings Management Standard.
- Support the Site Construction Manager and Senior Tailings Specialist in delivering projects within schedule and budget.
- Liaise with:
- Site Construction Manager
- Senior Tailings Specialist
- Group Tailings and Water Manager
- Engineer of Record (EoR)
- Consultants and other stakeholders
- Ensure construction activities follow approved drawings and specifications.
- Assist in preparing and approving Technical Queries (TQs).
- Ensure Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) activities are completed and properly documented.
- Follow company policies relating to:
- Safety
- Environment
- Health
- Community responsibilities
Operations Phase
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure tailings management activities comply with Perseus Tailings Management Standards.
- Support TSF investigations, studies, design, operational, and construction activities.
- Provide technical information to:
- Group Tailings and Water Manager
- Engineer of Record (EoR)
- Consultants
- Assist in preparing and managing budgets for tailings projects.
- Support technical justifications for capital and operating expenditure.
- Report significant design, construction, and operational issues.
- Participate in risk assessment workshops.
- Assist with preparation and review of:
- Tailings Management Plans
- Tailings Life of Mine Plans
- Support preparation of:
- Dam break assessments
- Consequence assessments
- Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manuals
- Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs)
- Conduct and document TSF inspections.
- Ensure monitoring data is collected and submitted appropriately.
- Support storage capacity reviews.
- Assist with site audits and independent reviews.
- Support preparation of Emergency Action and Response Plans (EARP).
- Facilitate mock emergency exercises.
- Provide on-the-job training to site personnel.
Skills & Experience
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Proven experience working on civil engineering or geotechnical engineering projects.
- Strong communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Desirable Experience
Added advantages include:
- Experience in construction and operation of mine tailings projects.
- Experience working on mining projects in Africa.
- Knowledge of:
- Tanzanian Dam Safety Guidelines
- ANCOLD Guidelines
- International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM)
- Other relevant tailings management standards and guidelines
Qualifications & Licences
Applicants should possess:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science related to tailings management, including:
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Environmental Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
