Role Summary

Alliance Life Assurance Ltd is seeking an experienced General Manager – Retail Distribution to lead and expand its individual life insurance business across Tanzania.

The successful candidate will oversee retail distribution operations nationwide and drive business growth through:

  • Retail agency expansion;
  • Bancassurance partnerships;
  • Digital transformation;
  • Customer retention initiatives; and
  • Financial inclusion strategies.

The role carries full profit center responsibility, including growth in Gross Written Premium (GWP), profitability, expense management, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Profit Centre Management

  • Lead retail growth and profitability targets.
  • Develop and execute retail life sales and distribution strategies.
  • Drive product development from ideation to launch.
  • Manage end-to-end retail distribution processes.

Retail Financial Advisors (RFA) Network

  • Build and optimize a nationwide RFA tied-agency network.
  • Lead recruitment, activation, retention, and performance management.
  • Establish a retail training and capability academy.
  • Ensure compliance with TIRA regulations.

Partnership Channels

  • Expand bancassurance and partnership distribution channels.
  • Collaborate with banks, brokers, SACCOs, MFIs, social and religious groups.
  • Develop loyalty programs and white-label partnerships.
  • Define service-level agreements and governance structures.

Digital & Mobile Distribution

  • Grow direct sales through digital platforms.
  • Lead mobile money-linked insurance distribution via M-Pesa and Airtel Money.
  • Oversee digital onboarding, e-KYC, and CRM-driven sales systems.

Customer Experience & Retention

  • Drive customer satisfaction and Net Promoter Score (NPS) targets.
  • Implement lapse prevention and customer win-back programs.

Financial Inclusion

  • Develop products and distribution models for informal, rural, and low-income segments.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Associate Diploma from ACII UK, III India, or LOMA USA;
  • CIM Degree or MBA in Sales & Marketing or General Management;
  • Degree from a recognized university.

Required Experience

  • 10–15 years in life retail insurance distribution leadership.
  • Minimum 5 years in P&L-accountable or GM-level roles.
  • At least 5 years managing partnership channels with banks or brokers.
  • Experience handling a life insurance portfolio of at least TZS 15 billion.
  • Experience managing 200+ distribution staff across multiple locations.
  • Proven experience scaling RFA/Tied Agency models.
  • Familiarity with TIRA regulations and retail distribution compliance.
  • Strong financial and strategic management skills.
  • Executive Committee and Board presentation experience.
