Background

The Land Transport Regulatory Authority – Consumer Consultative Council (LATRA CCC) was established under Section 29 of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority Act, No. 3 of 2019.

The Council is an independent statutory body responsible for representing and protecting the interests of consumers of regulated land transport services.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, invites qualified Tanzanian citizens to apply for three (3) vacant Board Member positions.

Functions of the Board Members

Appointed Board Members will participate in fulfilling the Council’s responsibilities as provided under Section 31(1) of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority Act, No. 3 of 2019, including:

• Representing consumer interests by submitting views, information, and recommendations to LATRA, the Minister, and relevant government authorities.
• Receiving and sharing information and opinions on issues affecting consumers of regulated goods and services.
• Establishing and consulting regional and sector-specific consumer committees.
• Engaging with industry stakeholders, government institutions, and consumer groups on consumer-related matters.
• Establishing local and sector consumer committees and coordinating consultations.
• Conducting research on matters affecting consumer interests in regulated sectors.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Knowledge and understanding of consumer interests, particularly within the regulated land transport sector.
• Knowledge of regulated land transport services, including:
  • Public transport.
  • Freight transport.
  • Rail transport.
  • Other services regulated by LATRA.
• Ability to represent the interests of:
  • Low-income consumers.
  • Rural and disadvantaged communities.
  • Industrial and business users.
  • Government and community organizations.
• Commitment to promoting and protecting consumer rights and welfare in the land transport sector.
• Applicants must be between 50 and 65 years of age.
