The Geita Gold Mine is located in Geita Region, Northwestern Tanzania, within the Lake Victoria Goldfields, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and about 20 km southeast of Lake Victoria. The company operates from its head office in Geita and maintains a supporting office in Dar es Salaam.
Job Summary
The Assistant 2 – Grade Control will support the Geology Department by executing and maintaining quality Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling and grade control sampling processes.
The role is responsible for ensuring accurate sample recovery, proper sample handling, data recording, and minimizing sample contamination and loss while following geological and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Geological Operations & Safety
- Perform geological activities safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Follow company safety procedures and environmental requirements during all operations.
- Support effective implementation of grade control activities.
2. RC Grade Control Sampling
- Implement RC grade control sampling procedures.
- Ensure accurate:
- Sample collection
- Sample bagging
- Sample labeling
- Sample identification
- Sample alignment according to standards
- Prepare:
- Sample bags
- Chip trays
- Sample submission forms
- Ensure correct sample numbers and QA/QC procedures are maintained.
- Maintain sample quality control from drill site through geology dispatch.
3. Reporting & Documentation
- Complete end-of-shift grade control summaries.
- Prepare and submit daily drilling reports to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate geological records and documentation.
4. Technical Support & Improvement
- Provide support to the Supervisor – Mine Geology regarding:
- Drilling practices
- Ore dilution control
- Grade control activities
- Identify challenges, strengths, and weaknesses in RC grade control processes.
- Recommend improvements to drilling and sampling procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Secondary school education required.
Experience
- Previous exposure to an open pit mining environment will be an added advantage.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Candidates should have:
- Basic understanding of:
- Open pit mining operations
- Geological sampling processes
- Grade control procedures
- Ability to follow safety and environmental standards.
- Attention to detail when handling geological samples and records.
