Job Purpose
The Process Artisan is responsible for:
- Operating process equipment according to established work instructions.
- Conducting non-destructive quality checks.
- Executing routine and planned maintenance activities.
- Supporting asset care initiatives.
- Coaching operators on machine operation and autonomous maintenance.
- Driving equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
The role combines operational support, maintenance execution, troubleshooting, and technical coaching within the manufacturing environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operational Support
The successful candidate will:
- Support shift teams during production operations.
- Attend SBT/SBU meetings and ensure follow-up of agreed actions.
- Assist teams with situational problem-solving.
- Coach operators on:
- Machine operation
- Fault diagnosis
- Correct responses to machine failures
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and skills development.
- Review SICs and address deviations.
- Develop equipment-related work instructions.
- Monitor equipment performance.
- Verify machines operate at rated production speeds.
- Prepare and communicate shift handover reports.
- Participate in technical meetings.
- Escalate unresolved technical issues.
- Act as Production Team Leader when required.
- Work rotational shifts as needed.
2. Planned Maintenance
Responsibilities include:
- Executing maintenance activities according to planned schedules.
- Coordinating with Maintenance Planners when scheduled work cannot be completed.
- Supporting team members during maintenance shutdowns.
- Participating in maintenance reviews and examinations.
- Identifying opportunities for maintenance optimization.
- Coaching operators on autonomous maintenance tasks.
- Reviewing line KPIs to evaluate maintenance effectiveness.
3. Routine Maintenance
The Process Artisan will:
- Perform cleaning, lubrication, and inspections.
- Execute preventive maintenance activities.
- Identify and resolve equipment issues using structured problem-solving techniques.
- Communicate maintenance requirements to planners when additional work is needed.
4. Running Repairs
- Perform repairs while equipment remains operational.
- Assess faults and determine corrective actions.
- Escalate repairs that require planned maintenance intervention.
- Ensure repair activities minimize production downtime.
5. Problem Solving
- Apply appropriate troubleshooting methodologies.
- Support operators in solving operational issues.
- Escalate complex problems when necessary.
- Participate in systematic root-cause investigations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Housekeeping and Safety
- Work safely at all times.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions.
- Comply with all company safety procedures.
- Maintain clean work areas.
- Apply 5S workplace organization principles.
7. New Product Development (NPD) Support
- Support NPD implementation and production trials.
- Ensure compliance with NPD procedures.
- Document equipment modifications accurately.
- Follow Engineering Change Management processes.
8. Training and Development
- Train operators on asset care practices.
- Coach operators on autonomous maintenance.
- Assess and sign off operator competencies when required.
- Develop technical standards and operating procedures.
- Support workforce capability development.
Educational Requirements
Minimum Requirement
Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Added Advantage
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience.
Experience Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 2 years of relevant technical experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment.
