AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Coordinator 1 – Environment to support environmental compliance across Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) and Light Mobile Equipment (LME) operations at Geita Gold Mine.


Position Objective

The HME Environmental Coordinator will support the HME Senior Supervisor and HE Workshop Manager in ensuring Geita Gold Mine complies with:

  • Government environmental regulations.
  • Internal environmental standards.
  • Insurance environmental requirements.

The role focuses on environmental inspections, waste management, pollution prevention, compliance monitoring, and environmental awareness within engineering work areas.


Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance & Safety

  • Promote safe work practices in line with Geita Gold Mine safety standards.
  • Ensure all activities comply with environmental procedures.
  • Support implementation of environmental controls across HME and LME areas.

Environmental Inspections & Audits

  • Coordinate environmental inspections and communication schedules.
  • Maintain environmental checklists.
  • Support internal and external environmental audits.
  • Follow up on corrective actions from inspections and audits.

Waste Management & Pollution Prevention

Monitor and support compliance with:

  • Waste segregation requirements.
  • Hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Waste management strategies.
  • Spill prevention controls.
  • Environmental standards.

Specific areas include:

  • Scrap and salvage yard housekeeping.
  • Spill kits.
  • Washing ponds.
  • Water separators.
  • Hydrocarbon spill prevention systems.

Environmental Training & Awareness

  • Support environmental awareness programs.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide technical guidance to contractors and employees.
  • Work closely with:
    • HSE Representatives.
    • Contractors.
    • Environment teams.

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

  • Report environmental issues, incidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Track environmental action plans.
  • Support environmental performance improvement across engineering areas.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have:

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Form Four Certificate.
  • Trade-level certification in mechanical trades or related studies.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Grade One Trade Test Certificate.
  • Diploma or FTC in:
    • Mechanical Engineering.
    • Automotive Engineering.
    • Maintenance Management.
    • Environmental-related fields.

OR

  • Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering.
    • Environmental Studies.

Additional Requirement

  • Valid Tanzania Driving Licence.

Required Experience

Candidates should have:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in environment and mobile equipment-related work.
  • Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience managing teams of up to 20 employees working continuous shift rosters.
  • Experience developing scopes of work for contracted projects.

Knowledge & Skills

Required skills include:

  • Good computer skills including:
    • Microsoft Office.
    • SAP.
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as:
    • Loaders.
    • Forklifts.
    • Tele-handlers.
    • Boom trucks.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Waste segregation.
    • Spill prevention.
    • Workshop environmental controls.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Good leadership and coordination abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
