Credit Risk Officer

Position Summary

The Credit Risk Officer is responsible for identifying, monitoring, and reporting credit risks within VisionFund Tanzania Microfinance Bank (VFT-MFB). The role supports the bank’s risk management framework by preparing credit risk reports, enhancing the credit risk appetite framework, coordinating mortgage documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory bodies such as the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).


Key Responsibilities

1. Identify and Report Current and Emerging Credit Risks (30%)

  • Facilitate the identification and reporting of current and emerging credit risks within VFT-MFB.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly credit risk reports by:
    • Branch
    • Product
    • Loan cycle
  • Review risks associated with new products and projects.
  • Analyze and report credit risk trends across branches, products, and projects.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Support initiatives aimed at:
    • Reducing credit losses.
    • Improving portfolio quality.
    • Enhancing profitability.

2. Preparation of Mortgage Documents (15%)

  • Compile all required documentation for mortgage processing.
  • Prepare mortgage documents after loan approval.
  • Ensure compliance with lending policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to:
    • Risk avoidance.
    • Loss reduction.
    • Regulatory compliance.

3. Enhance VFT-MFB Credit Risk Appetite Framework (25%)

  • Support the implementation and communication of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) across the organization.
  • Assess poorly performing products and projects to determine the need for detailed investigations.
  • Promote credit risk awareness throughout the institution.
  • Strengthen collaboration between departments on risk management initiatives.
  • Contribute to:
    • Reduced financial losses.
    • Improved working relationships.
    • Stronger risk governance.

4. Regulatory Reporting and Compliance (30%)

  • Prepare and submit reports required by the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
  • Serve as the primary liaison between VFT-MFB, BOT, and Credit Info regarding credit reporting matters.
  • Ensure accurate and timely regulatory reporting.
  • Promote:
    • Improved customer relationships.

    • A strong public reputation.

Qualifications

Education

Preferred

  • Master’s or Postgraduate Degree in:
    • Business Administration
    • Finance
    • Risk Management

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Marketing
    • Business Administration
    • Law
    • Accounting
    • Risk Management
    • Or a related field

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of credit risk management principles.
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Good understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in preparing regulatory reports.
  • Knowledge of mortgage documentation processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience

  • Experience in credit management is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in credit management is an added advantage.
