Vacancy: Dental Therapist


Job Summary

A Dental Therapist provides preventive and basic restorative dental care with a strong focus on:

  • Oral health promotion
  • Disease prevention
  • Treatment of common dental conditions

The role involves working under the supervision of or in collaboration with a dentist to improve access to dental care in the community.


Key Responsibilities

The Dental Therapist will:

1. Patient Assessment & Diagnosis

  • Examine patients’ oral health
  • Identify dental problems and conditions

2. Dental Treatment

Perform routine dental procedures, including:

  • Filling cavities
  • Scaling and polishing teeth
  • Simple tooth extractions (primary or uncomplicated cases)
  • Applying fluoride treatments and dental sealants

3. Radiography

  • Take and interpret dental X-rays

4. Patient Education

  • Educate patients on:
    • Oral hygiene practices
    • Preventive dental care
    • Proper brushing and dental maintenance

5. Treatment Planning & Care

  • Develop treatment plans within scope of practice
  • Assist in managing dental emergencies
  • Ensure continuity of patient care

6. Infection Control

  • Maintain strict sterilization and infection prevention protocols
  • Ensure safe clinical practice standards are followed

7. Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Document treatment procedures and outcomes

8. Collaboration & Community Work

  • Work closely with:
    • Dentists
    • Dental hygienists
    • Other healthcare professionals
  • Participate in community outreach and oral health education programs

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Dental Therapy from an accredited institution
  • Valid professional license or registration
