About the Role

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead all engineering and facilities operations at one of Africa’s premier luxury safari lodges. Reporting to the Lodge Manager, the successful candidate will oversee maintenance, infrastructure, capital projects, sustainability initiatives, and engineering staff while ensuring the property consistently meets Four Seasons’ world-class standards.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

• Provide strategic leadership for all engineering and facilities operations.
• Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Maintenance & Asset Management

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
• Ensure optimal performance of all lodge facilities and infrastructure.
• Preserve assets and maximize equipment reliability.

Infrastructure Management

Oversee all major engineering systems, including:

• Electrical systems
• Mechanical systems
• Plumbing
• HVAC
• Refrigeration
• Water treatment
• Fire and life safety systems
• Power generation
• Lodge infrastructure

Capital Projects

• Plan and manage capital expenditure projects.
• Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Sustainability

• Lead initiatives in:
  • Energy conservation
  • Water management
  • Solar energy utilization
  • Waste reduction
  • Environmental sustainability

Financial Management

• Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
• Monitor costs and optimize operational efficiency.
• Maintain Four Seasons quality standards while controlling expenses.

Compliance

• Ensure compliance with:
  • Local laws and regulations
  • Environmental standards
  • Occupational health and safety requirements
  • Four Seasons engineering standards

Collaboration

• Work closely with:
  • Rooms Division
  • Food & Beverage
  • Security
  • Finance
  • Other operational departments
• Build relationships with contractors, consultants, and government authorities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.
• At least 5 years of senior engineering leadership experience in:
  • Luxury hotels
  • Resorts
  • Large hospitality operations
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong project management and capital planning skills.
• Experience with budgeting and cost control.
• Knowledge of engineering compliance, environmental regulations, and life safety systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote luxury lodge environment.

Remote Living

This position is based inside Serengeti National Park.

• Single occupancy accommodation is provided.
• Family accommodation is not available due to park regulations and the remote location.
• Personal visits by family are allowed, but associated travel, accommodation, and park entry costs are the employee’s responsibility.
