The Geita Gold Mine is located in Geita Region, Northwestern Tanzania, within the Lake Victoria Goldfields, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and about 20 km southeast of Lake Victoria. GGML operates from its headquarters in Geita and maintains a supporting office in Dar es Salaam.
Job Summary
The Engineer 3 – Metallurgy will manage metallurgical and technical activities within an assigned section of the process plant, providing technical support to production and maintenance teams.
The role focuses on improving:
- Plant recovery
- Throughput
- Operational efficiency

The successful candidate will support continuous improvement initiatives, conduct process analysis, develop optimization opportunities, and provide technical expertise across the gold processing flowsheet.
The role reports to the Superintendent 2 – Process Technical and may deputize for the Superintendent when required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Metallurgical Technical Support
- Provide technical support to optimize plant performance and resource recovery.
- Analyze process data, ore characteristics, recovery trends, throughput, and operating costs.
- Identify processing inefficiencies and develop optimization opportunities through structured test work programmes.
- Develop and maintain:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Process control philosophies
- Technical guidelines
- Lead and participate in:
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- ICAM investigations
- Corrective and Preventive Action Plans (CAPA)
- Collaborate with:
- Mining teams
- Geology teams
- Maintenance teams
- Laboratory teams
- Other process departments
- Prepare:
- Technical reports
- KPI analysis reports
- Project updates
- Management presentations
- Support budgeting and cost control for:
- Reagents
- Consumables
- Energy
- Maintenance requirements
- Ensure accurate metallurgical reporting and data integrity.
Technical Expertise Required
The candidate must have strong technical knowledge in:
- Gold comminution and hydrometallurgy.
- Crushing and milling operations.
- Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) processes.
- Plant performance analysis.
- Process optimization across the full flowsheet.
Section-Specific Responsibilities
A. Comminution (Crushing & Milling)
- Optimize SAG and Ball milling circuit performance.
- Monitor:
- Throughput
- Product size (P80)
- Power consumption
- Recirculating load
- Manage:
- Mill charge weight
- Ball charge
- Liner wear
- Media replacement schedules
- Improve cyclone classification efficiency.
- Analyze ore hardness and grindability impacts.
B. Leach / CIL / CIP Operations
- Optimize leach and CIL/CIP performance.
- Manage:
- Cyanide dosing
- Dissolved oxygen
- pH control
- Retention time
- Improve gold dissolution performance.
- Minimize gold losses to tailings.
- Manage:
- Carbon inventory
- Carbon activity
- Carbon regeneration
- Acid washing cycles
- Ensure compliance with the International Cyanide Management Code.
C. Gold Room & Elution
- Manage:
- Elution circuits
- Electrowinning
- Smelting operations
- Doré production
- Ensure gold security procedures are followed.
- Manage carbon regeneration and acid washing operations.
- Maintain bullion reconciliation and refining quality.
D. Metal Accounting & Reconciliation
- Maintain process mass balance systems.
- Perform:
- F-factor calculations
- Gold-in-process inventory management
- Final product reconciliation
- Apply:
- AMIRA P754 Code of Practice
- Gy’s Sampling Theory
- Lead sampling QA/QC processes.
- Investigate metallurgical accounting variances.
E. Metallurgical Laboratory Management
- Manage laboratory activities including:
- Sample preparation
- Fire assay
- Metallurgical testing
- Ensure accurate laboratory results.
- Maintain QA/QC systems including:
- Standards
- Blanks
- Duplicates
- Control charts
- Support plant optimization test work.
F. Geometallurgy
- Develop geometallurgical models for process optimization.
- Collaborate with mining and geology teams.
- Analyze:
- Mineralogy
- Ore hardness
- Deleterious elements
- Support beneficiation studies and reagent optimization.
G. Water Treatment & Environmental Compliance
- Supervise water treatment plant operations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Improve water treatment efficiency.
- Monitor:
- Tailings water balance
- Discharge quality
- Water treatment performance
Operational Responsibilities
- Work according to site shift and roster requirements.
- Participate in:
- Standby/on-call duties
- Shutdown planning
- Shutdown execution
- Post-shutdown reviews

- Work with HSEC teams to maintain environmental compliance.
Additional Duties
- Prepare:

- Month-end statistics

- Prepare bullion bar lists according to schedules.
- Support GGR operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Engineering.
Experience
Candidates must have:
- Minimum 5 years’ technical experience in a mineral processing or gold processing environment.
Experience required in:
- SAG/Ball milling circuits
- Crushing and classification systems
- Grinding media and liner management
- Cyanide leaching
- CIL/CIP operations
- Gold room and elution processes
- Electrowinning and smelting
- Doré production
