About the Role
BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited (BTFL) is seeking a Head of Operations to provide strategic and operational leadership for credit operations across all field units.
The role focuses on delivering inclusive financial services to underserved communities, particularly women and youth in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Key Responsibilities
1. Annual Planning and Implementation
- Develop annual operational plans aligned with strategic priorities
- Set credit and savings targets (monthly, quarterly, annual)
- Translate targets into branch-level work plans
- Ensure achievement of growth, quality, and social impact targets
2. Operational Oversight and Performance Monitoring
- Supervise microfinance operations across all field units
- Monitor key performance indicators (outreach, loan disbursement, portfolio risk, client satisfaction)
- Lead monthly and quarterly performance review meetings
3. Field Visits and Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular branch visits
- Ensure compliance with credit methodologies and policies
- Gather client feedback and improve service delivery
- Address operational bottlenecks
4. Staff Development and Capacity Building
- Oversee staffing and deployment of field leadership
- Identify training needs and coordinate staff development
- Build leadership capacity within field teams
5. Product and Process Improvement
- Lead improvements in business processes
- Collaborate with product and research teams
- Support pilot programs and scale successful innovations
6. Digital Transformation and Systems Strengthening
- Support implementation of digital systems (CBS, DARS, DFA, Mobile Banking)
- Promote digital financial literacy
- Ensure effective use of reporting systems
7. Social Performance and Client-Centric Services
- Integrate social goals into credit operations
- Monitor social performance indicators
- Promote a client-focused culture
8. Client Protection and Complaint Management
- Ensure compliance with client protection standards
- Strengthen complaint handling mechanisms
- Analyze complaints and improve service delivery
9. Compliance, Monitoring, and Audit
- Ensure adherence to policies and regulations
- Address audit findings and strengthen controls
10. Representation and Strategic Leadership
- Represent field operations in management forums
- Provide insights for strategic decision-making
- Act as liaison between field and head office
11. Safeguarding
- Promote a safe working environment
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies
- Report and address safeguarding concerns
Educational & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (any discipline with relevant experience)
- Minimum 7–10 years in microfinance or financial services
- Certifications in microfinance, digital finance, or social performance are an advantage
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of microfinance operations
- Leadership experience managing large teams
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in English
- Familiarity with digital financial platforms
