Organizational Overview
The United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) continues the work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
It preserves their legacy while supporting international criminal justice and best HR practices within the UN system.
Job Summary
The Internship Coordinator supports the Human Resources Section by managing and coordinating the internship programme, ensuring smooth administration of intern recruitment, onboarding, communication, and offboarding processes.
The role also supports general HR administrative tasks under supervision of HR leadership.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Internship Programme Coordination
- Serve as focal point for all internship-related enquiries (internal and external)
- Draft internship offer letters and related correspondence
- Process and track internship applications and documentation
- Inform departments on application status and updates
- Maintain internship databases and records
2. Onboarding and Induction Support
- Provide induction briefings to new interns
- Ensure smooth onboarding processes across departments
- Support integration of interns into the organization
3. Offboarding and Administrative Processing
- Manage intern check-out procedures
- Ensure completion of required documentation
- Update HR databases upon completion of internships
4. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain effective communication with candidates, interns, and staff
- Handle telephone and email enquiries professionally
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to HR queries
5. HR Support Functions
- Assist Human Resources Section with ad-hoc administrative tasks
- Support general HR coordination activities as required
- Contribute to efficient HR service delivery within the Mechanism
Qualifications and Eligibility
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
- Enrolled in final year of a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), OR
- Enrolled in or completed a Master’s degree or higher

Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong proficiency in MS Office:
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (English required)
- Ability to manage administrative processes accurately
- Strong organizational and coordination skills
- Attention to detail and professionalism
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous experience in Human Resources or administration
- Knowledge of French or other UN official languages
Important Conditions
- This is an UNPAID internship
- Interns must cover all costs (travel, visa, accommodation, living expenses)
- Full-time commitment (5 days per week)
