Position Objective
Enza Zaden Tanzania Ltd is seeking an experienced Interim Facilities Maintenance Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the company’s maintenance and facilities function during a six-month assignment.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of company facilities, including:
- Buildings
- Greenhouses
- Infrastructure
- Utilities
- Technical assets
The role requires a strong facilities leader capable of quickly integrating into the business, managing maintenance teams, coordinating contractors, driving improvement initiatives, and ensuring uninterrupted operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities & Maintenance Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for the facilities maintenance function during the interim assignment.
- Develop, implement, and improve preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Ensure maximum equipment reliability and reduced operational downtime.
- Oversee maintenance and performance improvement of:
- Buildings
- Greenhouses
- Utilities
- Irrigation systems
- Mechanical equipment
- Electrical installations
- Technical infrastructure
Maintenance Strategy & Asset Management
- Develop maintenance strategies to improve asset reliability and optimize equipment lifecycle.
- Support operational excellence through effective maintenance planning and execution.
- Monitor maintenance performance using key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyse trends and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and reduce equipment failures.
Team Management & Development
- Lead, coach, and supervise the maintenance team.
- Set priorities, allocate resources, and monitor team performance.
- Promote a culture of:

Budget & Contractor Management
- Prepare and manage maintenance budgets.
- Ensure effective cost control while maintaining service quality.
- Manage external contractors and service providers.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed:

Projects, Compliance & Reporting
- Lead facility improvement, refurbishment, and infrastructure maintenance projects.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Occupational health and safety legislation
- Environmental standards
- Statutory and company requirements
- Maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Provide technical reports and recommendations to senior management regarding:
- Asset performance
- Maintenance priorities
- Operational improvements
Required Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Building Services Engineering
- Related engineering discipline
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in facilities or maintenance management.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a leadership role.
- Full registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Professional Engineer.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams in industrial or complex operational environments.
- Experience developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Facilities management
- Utilities
- Building infrastructure
- Asset management
- Maintenance best practices

- Experience managing maintenance budgets, contractors, and service providers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.

- Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to start work at short notice.

Contract Information
This is an interim appointment for an initial six-month fixed-term contract.
Depending on business needs, performance, and mutual agreement, the contract may be extended for an additional period of up to six months.
