Role Summary

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling cement distribution and transport operations to ensure timely delivery, cost efficiency, regulatory compliance, and high customer satisfaction.

The role also plays a key part in safety management, sustainability initiatives, and logistics optimization across inbound and outbound operations.


Main Responsibilities

1. Safety and Sustainability Leadership

  • Promote safety awareness among drivers and logistics staff
  • Champion sustainability initiatives (fuel efficiency, emissions reduction, clean transport)
  • Ensure proper use of online truck inspection systems
  • Conduct training and safety discussions with transport teams
  • Promote compliance with safety standards and operational discipline

2. Delivery and Dispatch Coordination

  • Coordinate daily cement deliveries based on confirmed orders
  • Work with packing plant teams to schedule truck loading
  • Monitor truck turnaround time and improve efficiency
  • Optimize backhaul utilization to reduce transport costs

3. Order Processing and Payment Verification

  • Receive and validate customer orders and payment confirmations
  • Coordinate with finance to ensure payment clearance
  • Release deliveries upon confirmation of payment

4. Traffic and Yard Management

  • Manage truck flow within plant and yard areas
  • Prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement of vehicles
  • Enforce safety and access control procedures
  • Maintain an organized and efficient operational environment

5. Customer Communication

  • Provide real-time delivery updates to customers
  • Handle customer inquiries related to dispatch and documentation
  • Promote digital tools for improved customer service
  • Ensure strong customer experience in logistics execution

6. Documentation and Compliance

  • Handle export and cross-border documentation
  • Process logistics permits and regulatory paperwork
  • Maintain accurate digital records (delivery notes, transport logs, export files)
  • Ensure compliance with transport regulations

7. Port Operations Coordination

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound port activities
  • Liaise with port authorities, customs, and shipping agents
  • Minimize delays and demurrage costs

8. Transport Contracts and Supplier Management

  • Support procurement in managing transport contracts
  • Monitor transporter performance against KPIs
  • Participate in supplier evaluations
  • Escalate non-compliance issues

9. Supplier Invoice Management

  • Reconcile transporter invoices against agreed rates
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies and queries
  • Follow up on payments and feedback to suppliers
  • Promote self-billing systems

10. Inbound Logistics Management

  • Coordinate raw material deliveries and unloading
  • Maintain optimal stock levels with procurement and production
  • Monitor goods in transit for timely delivery
  • Improve backhaul and cost efficiency
  • Ensure smooth loading and unloading operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in:
    • Logistics
    • Transport Management
    • Business Administration
    • or related field
  • Proficiency in MS Office and logistics systems (TMS, tracking tools, ERP systems)
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian transport regulations and export procedures

Experience Requirement

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in logistics coordination
  • Preferably in cement, construction materials, or bulk cargo logistics
