Barrick is seeking a qualified Mining Engineer to join its Africa & Middle East (AME) team at North Mara Gold Mine.
Position Summary
The Mining Engineer will provide technical mine planning and engineering support to underground mining operations. The role focuses on mine planning, scheduling, drilling and blasting quality assurance, production optimization, and continuous improvement to ensure the achievement of operational and business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Mine Planning
- Develop timely mine plans to support underground production targets.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly mining schedules and forecasts.
- Monitor implementation and effectiveness of mine plans through regular engagement with underground operations teams.
Drilling & Blasting
- Conduct drilling and blasting Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC).
- Perform borehole tracking to ensure drilling accuracy and compliance with mine designs.
Production Optimization
- Conduct mining equipment productivity simulations.
- Perform scenario planning to improve operational efficiency.
- Identify and implement continuous business improvement opportunities.
- Reduce ore dilution and ore loss through optimized manual stope design.
Operational Support
- Work closely with underground operations to ensure production objectives are achieved.
- Support contractors and consultants working at the Gokona Underground Mine.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Promote and support health, safety, and environmental programmes.
- Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety requirements.
- Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment activities.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Registration as a Mining Engineer or Professional Engineer.
- Demonstrated competency in:
- Mine planning
- Production scheduling
- 3D mine design software
Experience
Applicants should have:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Underground Mining (preferred).
- Practical experience in underground mine planning and production engineering.
- Experience working with mine scheduling and mine design software.

About North Mara Gold Mine
North Mara Gold Mine is located in Tarime District, Mara Region, approximately:
- 100 km east of Lake Victoria
- 20 km south of the Kenya border
The operation consists of:
- Gokona Underground Mine
- Nyabirama Open Pit Mine
The processing plant has the capacity to process approximately 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
