Role Purpose

The Projects and Infrastructure Engineer will plan, coordinate, and execute capital expenditure (CapEx) projects across SBL sites.

The role is responsible for delivering safe, timely, cost-effective, and fit-for-purpose projects that support:

  • Operational efficiency
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Infrastructure reliability
  • Sustainable business growth

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery

  • Develop three-year rolling CapEx plans with business stakeholders.
  • Lead the annual CapEx project lifecycle from planning and concept development through design, costing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Manage cross-functional teams and external vendors to deliver projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Manage the performance of project teams and professional service providers, including architects, building services engineers, civil and structural engineers, quantity surveyors, safety service providers, and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with CapEx governance processes and company regulations.
  • Advise on the selection of appropriate alternatives and approaches for complex projects.
  • Benchmark and review engineering standards to improve project execution.

2. Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture across local projects.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS standards and local regulations.
  • Ensure infrastructure solutions comply with engineering standards, GMP where applicable, and sustainability targets.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, audit trails, and certifications for infrastructure projects.

3. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Quality, SHEQ, Procurement, Finance, and Corporate Affairs teams.
  • Support regulatory engagement and approval processes for infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure projects align with wider business priorities.

4. Cost & Performance Optimization

  • Drive value engineering and cost efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor infrastructure systems and recommend improvements to reliability, availability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews.
  • Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future project planning.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • BSc in Engineering in one of the following fields:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
  • Postgraduate qualification in Engineering or Business Studies is desirable.
  • Registration as a professional engineer with the Engineers Board.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.

Required Experience & Skills

  • At least 7 years of experience as a Design Engineer, Project Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or a combination of these roles in the FMCG industry.
  • At least 3 years of experience in other senior supply-related roles.
  • Diploma in Brewing & Distilling or at least 5 years of experience in the brewing industry is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of:
    • Brewing processes
    • Spirits blending
    • Packaging
    • Grain handling
  • Commercial awareness and exposure to other areas of supply chain operations.
  • Strong project financial appraisal skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
