Job Summary — SME Relationship Manager / Business Banking Role

This opportunity is with NMB Bank Plc and is based in Kibaha under the Dar es Salaam Zone.

The role focuses on growing the SME portfolio through client acquisition, credit analysis, relationship management, and portfolio quality monitoring.


Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Business Growth & Client Acquisition

  • Drive growth of:
    • SME asset portfolio
    • Customer deposits
  • Source new SME clients and develop business pipelines
  • Maximize cross-selling opportunities within assigned areas

Credit Analysis & Risk Management

  • Appraise SME credit applications
  • Recommend commercially viable financing solutions
  • Structure lending facilities aligned with bank policies and risk appetite
  • Monitor:
    • PAR (Portfolio at Risk)
    • NPL (Non-Performing Loans)

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain sustainable customer relationships
  • Support:
    • Relationship Officers
    • Branch Managers
    • Business Center Relationship Managers
  • Represent the bank in SME forums and networking events

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Coach and mentor team members
  • Promote knowledge sharing and performance improvement
  • Strengthen credit quality and customer engagement practices

Compliance & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Ensure adherence to:
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Internal policies
    • Ethical banking standards
  • Collaborate with:
    • Credit teams
    • Risk teams
    • Legal departments
    • Operations units

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Finance
    • Accounting
    • Banking
    • Economics
    • Related fields

Added Advantage

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline

Required Experience

Candidates should have:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in:
    • Business Banking
    • Relationship Management
  • At least 3 years managing SME customers
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in credit analysis

Required Skills

Technical Skills

  • Strong credit analytical skills
  • Financial analysis expertise
  • Understanding of Tanzania’s banking sector
  • Knowledge of SME markets and business environments
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Word
    • Access

Soft Skills

  • Customer relationship management
  • Communication skills in:
    • English
    • Kiswahili
  • Leadership and coaching ability
  • Team-building and business management skills
